MPIKA TOWN COUNCIL SEIZES ASSORTED BEER FROM UNLICENSED OUTLETS IN CBD

MPIKA, 13th May 2026 – Mpika Town Council, through the Department of Public Health and Council Police, has seized an assortment of alcoholic beverages from various shops operating in the Central Business District.

The operation was conducted on yesterday by Health Inspector, Mr. Paul Mutale, together with Council Police officers. The confiscated beers were being sold by business owners without valid liquor licenses, contrary to the Liquor Licensing Act, Chapter 187 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr. Mutale stated that the Council will not sit idle while business houses flout the law.

“The Local Authority has a duty to regulate the sale of alcohol in the district. We are warning all traders that selling liquor without a valid license is illegal. Those found wanting will be prosecuted and their merchandise confiscated,” Mr. Mutale said.

He further appealed to the business community to comply with licensing requirements before commencing the sale of alcoholic beverages.

“Any person or business intending to sell beer is required to pay a prescribed liquor license fee of K365 to the Council. This must be done before they start trading. There will be no exceptions,” he added.

Mpika Town Council remains committed to enforcing the law and ensuring orderly trade in the district for the safety and well-being of all residents.
