WHAT TO DO WHEN THERE IS GAS LEAK

1. do not make the call from within the house, as this action may ignite the gas

2. Do not switch lights or household appliances on or off

3. ensure all people and pets are evacuated from the house immediately

4. Open doors and windows for ventilation

5. Never use lighters, candles, matches, or other sources of ignition

6. Do not try to search for the source of the leak or try to repair it by yourself.

7. If a mild gas smell is present, turn off the gas pilot light immediately. Open all the windows and call the Police or Fire service from outside the house. They will likely have certified inspectors to assess the situation

HOW TO DETECT GAS LEAK

Small gas leaks at filling stations may not have smell or other physical signs. However, if there is a gas leak in the home, a person may notice

1. the smell of sulfur or rotten eggs

2. a hissing or whistling sound near a gas line

3. a white cloud or dust cloud near a gas line

4. bubbles in water

5. a damaged gas pipe

6. Unexplained dead houseplants

7. Also, gas finishes earlier than normal, as gas will be escaping from gas lines or appliances into the house.

NOTABLE PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS OF GAS LEAK

A reduction in the amount of oxygen in the air causes gas leak symptoms. These can include:

1. breathing difficulties

2. dizziness

3. headaches

4. irritation to the eyes and throat

5. nosebleeds

6. pains in the chest

7. pale skin or blistering, following direct contact with gas

URGENT TRAVEL ADVISORY TO SOUTH AFRICA

....the Mission would like to advise all Zambian Truck Drivers who are sheduled to travel to South Africa between 1st and 4th September NOT to do so until security is guaranteed.

From 1st to 4th September 2019.

The Zambia High Commission in Pretoria South Africa has observed with concern reports of some Zambian Truck Drivers being threatened with Violence following a planned National wide work stoppage by the South African Truck Drivers.

According to the information made available to the Zambian MISSION, some Zambian Truck Drivers have faced physical attacks and threats from their South African counterparts who are fighting for better condition of services from their employers.

So far, a notice from unidentified Association alleging to represent South Africa Truck Drivers have been issued calling for national wide work stoppage among South Africa drivers from 2nd September.

It is with this background that the Mission would like to advise all Zambian Truck Drivers who are sheduled to travel to South Africa on the mentioned date not to do so until security is guaranteed.

The Mission would also want to advise Zambian Truck Drivers who will enter or would be working in South Africa on the 2nd of September 2019 to park their Trucks in safe and secure designated places in order to avoid loss of life and property.

The Mission has in the past engaged Department of International Relations DIRCO on the safety of Zambian Truck drivers and assured the Mission of tight security Measures that the South African Government were putting in place.
