ECZ BRIEFS UNIFORMED STAFF AHEAD OF MULIMAMBANGO WARD ELECTION.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in Sesheke District has held a briefing for uniformed personnel ahead of the Mulimambango Ward election.
The briefing, held today Wednesday, 7th October 2026, at the Civic Center was aimed at preparing uniformed personnel for the nomination process scheduled for Thursday, 8th October 2026, and the subsequent poll scheduled for Thursday, 5th November 2026.
Officially opening the briefing, Acting District Electoral Officer, Mr. Chola Kapempwa, said it is imperative that both the nomination process and the election were conducted in a peaceful, fair and transparent manner.
“As men and women in uniform, I wish to acknowledge the crucial role you play in maintaining peace and order before, during and after elections,” Mr. Kapempwa said.
He appealed to the uniformed personnel not to relent in their dedication, professionalism and commitment to duty, as demonstrated in previous elections, in order to ensure an incident-free electoral process and zero tolerance to violence.
Mr. Kapempwa said elections are a cornerstone of democracy and must therefore be conducted in a manner that promotes fairness, peace and transparency.
“As officers charged with the responsibility of enforcing the law, you are not only protecting the physical safety of our electoral staff, but you are also protecting those participating in the election, including election materials and equipment,” he said.
He emphasised that the rule of law and the right of residents of Mulimambango Ward to freely and peacefully express themselves through association or support for a candidate or political party depends largely on the professionalism and dedication of law enforcement officers during the electoral period.
Mr. Kapempwa urged the officers to ensure public order while safeguarding every citizen’s right to participate in the electoral process without fear, intimidation or harassment.
He further instructed the officers to be deployed at the nomination centre to remain vigilant and prepared to respond professionally to any challenges that may arise.
“As you manage the nomination centre, you must stand ready for any challenges that may arise, while exercising maximum professionalism and commitment", he said.
Mr. Kapempwa acknowledged that election periods can sometimes be stressful and unpredictable but expressed confidence in the preparedness of the uniformed personnel to effectively manage any challenges.
He also appealed to the officers to ensure that every eligible citizen in Mulimambango Ward is able to participate freely and without fear.
“Your role in preserving peace, upholding the law and contributing to an election conducted on a level playing field cannot be overstated,” Mr. Kapempwa said.
He urged the uniformed personnel to remain professional, impartial and committed to maintaining peace throughout the electoral process, saying their conduct would be critical to ensuring public confidence in the Mulimambango Ward election.
