SMART ZAMBIA TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
On Thursday 1st October. 2026, a team from Southern Provincial Administration paid a courtesy call on the Council Secretary Ms Choolwe Maunga. The purpose of the visit was to share details on a transport Management App the Province is working on. The team comprised of Mr. Albert Siakakaba the Provincial Controller of Government Transport and Mr. Musubba Sibajene the Senior ICT officer at SMART Zambia.

They explained that Southern Provincial Administration in conjunction with SMART Zambia and Controller of Government Transport are rolling out the Southern Province Government Transport Management System (SPGTMS), a digital solution aimed at strengthening the management, monitoring and accountability of government vehicles across Southern Province.
The initiative is designed to provide a centralized and reliable digital platform for capturing and managing information on government vehicles, including vehicle registration details, ownership, allocation, condition, maintenance, verification and utilization.
Through the system, relevant government institutions will be able to maintain up-to-date records of government vehicles and support the verification process through accurate, accessible and centralized data. This is expected to reduce reliance on fragmented manual records while making it easier to identify vehicles, track their status and support informed decision-making.
They further explained that two Transport Officers in Sinazongwe District will be oriented on how to use the system. These are the Chief Committee and Administrative Officer Mr. Gifford Muleya for Departments under Sinazongwe Town Council namely Administration, Agriculture, Community Development, Engineering, Finance, Fisherries and Livestock,Health Services, Legal and Social Welfare; and the District Administrative Officer Mr. Brian Siwelwa for Departments under Central Government.
The team also took time to show the Council Secretary some key features of the system such as tracking whereabouts of the vehicle, due date for Service and Insurance among other progressive features.
Ms. Maunga who was visibly excited about usage of the App for Management of Local Authority vehicles, thanked the team for such a wonderful initiative which will help enhance durability and safety; and ensure correct usage and maintenance of Government vehicles. Adding that planning for operations will be easier for the transport Officers.
