Stakeholders Meet to Tackle Sewer Challenges: United for a Cleaner Ward 1
Today 18 February 2026, Municipality of Chegutu staff led by His Worship the Mayor, joined forces with key stakeholders and residents in Ward 1 to address the recurring sewer blockage issues head-on. The residents were also represented by Hon. D. Nduna to find the lasting solution to the sewer blockages being experienced in Ward 1.
Recognizing the urgent need for action, the stakeholders conducted an on-site inspection to assess the situation. Due to its downstream position, Ward 1 often bears the brunt of blockages in the system. It was unanimously agreed that an immediate intervention is required to bring relief to residents.
As a short-term solution, the Municipality has moved to suck out all solid waste and debris from the manholes and flush the lines to restore normal flow. However, stakeholders present did not just look for a quick fix, but concluded with a strong commitment to a long-term strategy of a comprehensive rehabilitation of the Ward 1 sewer network. This will ensure a lasting solution to the problem and improve sanitation standards for all.
We thank His Worship the Mayor, Hon Nduna, the Council technical team and the community members of Ward 1 for their collaborative spirit and constructive engagement. Together, we are building a cleaner and more sustainable Chegutu

In a fantastic demonstration of Corporate Social Responsibility to the community, ZIMPLATS has deployed vital machinery including a JCB, tippers, and a grader to assist in maintaining our local roads. These roads have been significantly affected by the heavy rains experienced since November 2025. A huge thank you to ZIMPLATS for their incredible support in partnering with the Chegutu Municipality!
The work has begun on Chakari Road, a key route that links the Phase 4 community and forms part of the Municipality of Chegutu's ring road. This timely intervention is helping to restore safe and reliable access for all residents.
The Council is deeply grateful for this hands-on partnership and commitment to supporting the Chegutu community's infrastructure and well-being. This is what true community partnership looks like!
