The Ministry of Health and Child Care is currently conducting the second round of Zimbabwe's polio vaccination campaign, running from June 2 to June 5, 2026.
Parents and guardians of children under five in Harare, Bulawayo, and any of the 20 high-risk border districts are encouraged to welcome vaccination teams into their homes or visit their nearest healthcare facility to ensure all eligible children receive the oral polio vaccine
Targeted Districts:
Bulawayo Metropolitan: Emakandeni, Northern Suburbs and Nkulumane
Harare Metropolitan: Harare City, Chitungwiza, Epworth and Ruwa
Manicaland: Mutare, Mutasa, Chimanimani and Chipinge
Mashonaland Central: Mbire, Mt. Darwin, Centenary and Rushinga
Mashonaland East: Mudzi
Mashonaland West: Kariba and Hurungwe
Masvingo: Chiredzi
Matabeleland North: Binga, Hwange and Tsholotsho

The Minister of Health and Child Care, Hon. Dr. Douglas Mombeshora today, addressed a press conference on Ebola preparedness and drug and substance abuse. He confirmed that Zimbabwe has no reported Ebola cases but remains on high alert due to the regional outbreak. The Minister also highlighted growing concerns over drug abuse, particularly among youths, and noted that 15 rehabilitation centres are operational nationwide, with 138 more identified for renovation.

On the sidelines of the in Geneva, Switzerland, the Minister of Health and Child Care, Hon. Dr. Douglas Mombeshora met with officials from Pfizer. Their discussion centered on implementing the recently signed MOU under the 'Accord for a Healthier World' initiative. This partnership aims to provide Zimbabwe with essential, not-for-profit medicines and vaccines while simultaneously upgrading the country's medical supply chains, regulatory frameworks and healthcare worker training programs.

Minister of Health and Child Care, Hon. Dr. Douglas Mombeshora, is currently attending the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland. This Wednesday, he chaired the African Ministers of Health meeting on the Common African Position on HIV and AIDS. The session focused on strengthening Africa’s collective response toward ending HIV and AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Key topics included sustainable financing, the integration of HIV services into broader health systems, community leadership, and equitable access to treatment and prevention services.
During the meeting, Member States reaffirmed the importance of strong political commitment in sustaining a robust, multisectoral HIV response across the health, finance, education, justice and social protection sectors.

Secretary for Health and Child Care, Dr A.J.V. Maunganidze, is in Geneva where he is chairing the WHO’s Executive Board Committee of Programme Budget and Administration Committee from 12 to 15 May 2026. This meeting is held in advance of the World Health Assembly set to kick off on the 18th of May. The Programme Budget and Administration Committee (PBAC) is a crucial committee that supports the Executive Board by reviewing WHO’s programme budget, financial oversight, administration, governance and human resource matters. It provides detailed scrutiny and recommendations to help ensure that the World Health Organization operates efficiently, transparently and in line with its strategic priorities.
