From Zimbabwe’s rich Tourism Heritage to the digital technologies shaping the future of travel, the country joined the world in celebrating Tourism as a catalyst for destination growth, community empowerment and economic transformation. Zimbabwe commemorated the 2026 World Tourism Day at Heritage Village in Harare under the global theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” with Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi represented by Deputy Minister Hon Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa. The celebrations reaffirmed Tourism’s role in socio-economic development. The Ministry together with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority is harnessing Artificial Intelligence, ICTs and digital platforms to profile and preserve attractions, enhance tourist experiences and strengthen Zimbabwe’s global destination visibility.

The celebrations also highlighted Zimbabwe’s drive to spread Tourism opportunities across the country, building on the recent Sanganai/Hlanganani/Dzimbahwe World Tourism Expo in Masvingo and the National Devolution Agenda. Through strategic Tourism Clusters, Communities, Women, Persons living with Disabilities and Youths are being integrated into the Tourism value chain, with Gastronomy Tourism, championed by the Tourism Patron, Her Excellency the First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, promoting indigenous cuisine while linking local producers to hotels and restaurants. As Zimbabwe joined the global Tourism community, the celebrations underscored a sector advancing through Innovation, Heritage, Sustainability and Inclusive growth, alongside preparations for the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism 2027.
