Best in Show at the 2025 Hawkesbury Show, and now Omar’s work is coming to Aberdoon House. 🏆

Omar Khizar Mirza works in acrylic and ink, on anything from an A4 sheet to a wall-sized canvas. His painting Mechanical Birds won Best in Show in the open art section at the 2025 Hawkesbury Show, and in 2024 he held a solo exhibition at Gallery One62, showing landscapes of nature and cities.

Omar thinks in pictures, and his art is how he shares what he sees. As our art team puts it, when Omar is creating, he’s in his happy place.

See Omar’s work at our Look Again exhibition this coming Saturday, with artworks available to buy on the day.

Ever wondered what grows at Opal Cottage? 🌱

In our Green Thumbs Club, participants grow vegetables from seed to table. They design and build the garden beds, plant the seedlings, keep up the watering and weeding, and celebrate when it's harvest time. (Thanks to Hayden, Izzy and Craig for showing what it looks like!)

Come and see the garden at our Opal Cottage Open Day. Meet the team, see our programs running and ask us anything.

Every blossom on this tree was painted by Tim Erickson. 🌸

Tim is one of the artists in our Look Again exhibition at Aberdoon House. He draws on the things he loves - nature, music and sport - and works closely with the art team to refine his technique before bringing each idea to life. Swipe to see Sakura Magic go from blank canvas to finished piece.

His painting Moonlight on Water was recently a finalist in the Abstract Abilities art competition. Come and see both in person, with artworks available to buy on the day.

This one's for the carers. 💛

It's National Carers Week, and we want to say thank you to the parents, partners, brothers, sisters, grandparents and friends who show up for someone every single day. Early starts, appointments, forms, and a hundred other things nobody else sees. We see them.

Looking after yourself matters too. Carer Gateway offers free support just for carers, from counselling and coaching to respite. Call 1800 422 737 or visit carergateway.gov.au

If someone you love lives in supported independent living, you may have heard the rules changed this year. 🏡

From 1 July 2026, every Supported Independent Living (SIL) provider needs a specific registration with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. NWDS has completed that registration and meets the new SIL standards.

For the people we support, nothing changes day to day - we’re still focused on the goals that matter most to each person.
