Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the young man who lost his life yesterday in a fatal accident at King St and Oxley Ave 🕊️

Any life lost on our roads is one too many.

A motorcyclist has died after a crash in Woody Point this afternoon. Preliminary inquiries indicate at 5.04pm a motorcycle was heading south on Oxley

We’ve just passed the strongest bail laws in the nation.

No one has fought harder for these changes than my colleague, Russell Field MP, Member for Capalaba.

Russell’s son Matthew, his pregnant fiancée Kate, and their unborn son Miles were all killed by a teenager out on bail.

Russell has fought tirelessly for victims and their families, determined to ensure others do not have to endure the same heartbreak.

Nothing can undo the tragedy for families like Russell or of the Beaumonts, who lost Angus here in Redcliffe also by youths out on bail, but their courage and determination have helped drive meaningful change to help make Queensland safer.

Every child deserves to grow up feeling safe, whether that's at home, at school, playing sport or enjoying everything our Redcliffe community has to offer.

This National Child Safety Week, I'm highlighting some of the important reforms we're delivering to better protect Queensland children and give parents greater peace of mind.

✅ Daniel's Law – Queensland's first public child s*x offender register, giving parents access to important information to help keep their children safe.

✅ Stronger Blue Card protections – Tougher screening requirements and stronger powers to act when risks to children are identified.

✅ Reportable Conduct Scheme – Greater accountability for organisations working with children, with requirements to report and investigate allegations of misconduct and abuse.

✅ Queensland Protection Commission – Establishing a dedicated safeguarding body to strengthen oversight and bring key child protection functions together.

✅ Child Safeguarding Intelligence Hub – Laying the foundations for better information sharing to help identify risks to children earlier.

✅ Tougher penalties – Strengthening consequences for those who fail to meet their child safeguarding obligations.

These reforms are more than legislation. They're about giving Redcliffe parents confidence the organisations and people entrusted with their children are held to high standards.

There's no greater responsibility than keeping our kids safe, and that's a commitment we will continue to deliver on ❤️
