🌺💀 Día de los Mu***os at Everton Park SHS! 💀🌺

Everton Park SHS came alive today with colour, culture and celebration as the Humanities and Languages Department shared the beautiful Mexican tradition of Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead).

Students explored the importance of remembering and celebrating the lives of loved ones who have passed on. This special tradition is not about fear, but rather about family, love, memories and honouring the people who continue to hold a special place in our hearts. ❤️🌼

Remembering and celebrating lives, one memory at a time! 🌺

Students embraced the celebration by participating in two engaging activities. They showcased their creativity by decorating colourful Calaveras (skulls) with traditional Día de los Mu***os-inspired symbols, patterns, flowers and positive Spanish words. They also contributed to our Marigold Message Wall, writing heartfelt messages to honour someone special, whether a family member, friend or person who inspires them.

These activities provided a meaningful opportunity for students to celebrate life, share memories and develop their understanding of Mexican culture. 🌺❤️

💙 Together We Thrive | Mental Health Month

Animals have a special way of lifting our spirits, reducing stress and bringing people together! 🐐🐰

As we reflect on October’s Mental Health Month, we’re sharing a few highlights from the activities that brought our EP community together.

Our Wellbeing Team, in collaboration with PBL, organised a special animal encounter on the oval. A huge thank you to the wonderful team at Amazing Animals to You for bringing such awesome animals to EP!

Students also enjoyed external guest presenters and a range of lunchtime connection activities, creating opportunities to learn, connect and recharge.

It was fantastic to have current Year 12 student Emily involved. Having completed her Certificate II in Animal Care as part of her QCE, Emily loved sharing her expertise and passion for animals with our students.

While Mental Health Month has wrapped up, positive mental health and wellbeing remain an everyday priority at EP. Together, we thrive! 💙

🍎 What Our Students Say About Teachers at EP

Sometimes, the greatest recognition comes from the people who experience the difference every day.

This World Teachers’ Day, we’re shining a light on our teachers through the voices of our students. When asked what makes their teachers special, they shared:

💙 “They always take the time to help.”
💙 “They encourage us to do our best.”
💙 “They make learning engaging and enjoyable.”
💙 “They care about us as individuals.”

Our teachers do more than deliver lessons. They build relationships, inspire confidence, create opportunities and empower students to reach their potential.

To our teachers, thank you for the difference you make every day. Our students’ words say it best!

A special thank you to our Hands on Learning team for serving refreshing beverages, Tim Mander MP for the delicious cake, and local Councillor Tracy Davis for the chocolates. Your generosity helped make the celebration extra special!

Happy World Teachers’ Day! 💙💛

💙 Supporting Every Student to Thrive.

At Everton Park State High School, student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do.

Our Student Wellbeing Framework brings together the programs, supports and opportunities that help students feel connected, supported and empowered to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Our approach focuses on five key areas of wellbeing:

🔹 Physical – helping students stay healthy, active and ready to learn
🔹 Social – building connection, belonging and positive relationships
🔹 Personal – supporting students to understand themselves and their future pathways
🔹 Psychological – helping students feel safe, valued and supported
🔹 Cognitive – encouraging students to learn, grow and achieve their best

From student leadership and wellbeing programs to academic support, sporting opportunities and future pathway planning, every element works together to ensure students are known, supported and able to thrive.

Creating Bright Futures starts with student wellbeing.

Be Responsible. Be Respectful. Be Your Best.

🎨 Experimenting, exploring and asking “what if?”

Last Wednesday, our Year 11 Visual Art students took part in a hands-on workshop with local artist Emily Parker, Director of Parker Contemporary, a South Brisbane gallery in the Fish Lane Arts Precinct with a focus on printmaking and papermaking.

Emily encouraged students to explore materials, techniques and mark making, and to embrace the unplanned along the way. This term is all about investigation and inquiry, and the workshop helps build a starting point for their major projects next year.

It’s the second year Emily has worked with our Year 11s, and we’re very grateful for her time and inspiration. ✨

🎶 What a night for Instrumental Music at Everton Park State High School.

Last Tuesday evening, our talented instrumental music students took the stage for the Instrumental Showcase Music Night, sharing the music they’ve been working so hard on with our school community.

A special thank you to our Instrumental Music teachers, Toby Thompson and Lisa Kirk, whose dedication, organisation and support helped bring the evening together and provided our students with the opportunity to showcase their talents.

Thank you to the families and friends who came along to cheer them on. We are incredibly proud of every performer and the commitment they have shown throughout the year. 👏

🏀 Designing, Building and Creating.

Our Year 9 students have been putting their design and practical skills into action by designing and constructing their own basketball stands using wood and acrylic.

Throughout the project, students follow the design process from concept to completion while developing skills in measuring, cutting, shaping and assembling materials. They also gain an understanding of material properties, safe workshop practices and the importance of quality craftsmanship.

Projects like this provide students with valuable hands-on learning experiences, encouraging creativity, problem-solving and attention to detail while bringing their ideas to life.

It's been fantastic to see the pride students take in creating a product that is both functional and uniquely their own.

💙💛 Creating Bright Futures through innovation, design and practical learning.
