Carrum Downs Fire Brigade attends an average of 400 fires and incidents per year.

We are a fully volunteer brigade and some of the incidents types we attend include: structure fires, car fires, motor vehicle accidents (including rescue), industrial rescue, grass and scrub fires, hazardous materials and many more. As well as attending fires, Carrum Downs Fire Brigade is also involved in community awareness and safety, Fire Safe Kids, kindergarten visits and many fundraising activities. Carrum Downs Fire Brigade trains on Tuesday nights and all members are required to attend the fire station one Sunday a month to maintain the station and grounds and check all the equipment on the trucks. When joining as an operational firefighter you are required to successfully complete the general fire fighter course. From the time you join as a member it will be approximately 3-6 months before you complete your initial training and you are able to attend fires and incidents with the Brigade. We have 45 fire fighters and 10 Brigade Support Team members, who work together on a regular basis to make sure that our Brigade runs smoothly. Our brigade motto is ‘Striving to Exceed Community Expectations’ and we live by this motto by providing the highest level of service to our community. The Brigade Support Team who assists with fundraising and social activities who meet on the first Monday of the month, meetings start at 7.30pm. 🚒 Preparing for Summer – Rain, Hail or Shine! 🔥

Despite the current weather, our members are continuing preparations for the upcoming fire season!

At our latest training session, crews practised burnover procedures and emergency radio communications, preparing for situations where a bushfire may suddenly change direction or intensity, leaving firefighters trapped with no safe escape route.

While we hope our crews never face this situation, knowing exactly what to do can make all the difference.

💪 Practice makes perfect! By regularly rehearsing these procedures, our members build the confidence and muscle memory needed to act quickly under pressure, communicate critical information up the chain of command, and ensure assistance can be organised as quickly as possible.

Preparation, communication and teamwork are essential to keeping our crews safe on the fireground. 🚒

Tonight’s training saw the crew working on running grass fire attack, draughting and as we have a spare pumper at the moment, we worked on its capabilities utilizing Pump and Roll and the Auxiliary Pump.
All in preparation for the upcoming fire season.

Annnd that’s a wrap! We hope everyone who braved the weather enjoyed themselves during our Open Day.
