🚧 Doyle Street Bridge Replacement 🚧
- Project Completion

🎉 We are pleased to announce the completion of the Doyle Street Bridge replacement!

Cessnock City Council replaced the previous timber bridge on Doyle Street, as part of our ongoing program to renew ageing infrastructure and improve road safety across the region.

Some of the fantastic benefits we will see with the new bridge include 👇

➡️ The new concrete bridge will provide a longer service life
➡️ Replacing the timber bridge with a concrete structure significantly reduces ongoing maintenance requirements.
➡️ The replacement bridge will restore full load capacity and improve structural reliability, allowing safer access for all road users

The bridge is open from today, so feel free to jump in the car, or use the upgraded pedestrian pathway, and give it a test run! 😍

📱 Domestic Violence Safe Phone Collection Point 🤳
- A Second Life for Your Mobile Phone, A Safer Life for Someone Escaping Violence

ℹ️ Cessnock City Council, in alignment with our recently adopted Domestic Violence Prevention Plan 2026-2031, is pleased to announce that we have become a DV Safe Phone Collection Point.

Having donated 21 of our own ex-fleet phones to this important initiative back in May 2026, we are pleased to now be supporting our community to do the same. 😍

For many victim-survivors, a mobile phone is the first thing taken, broken, or monitored by an abuser rendering them unable to connect to life-saving support. DV Safe Phone bridges this critical safety gap by turning unused mobile phones and retired corporate technology assets into active lifelines for those escaping violence. 🛡️

Here is how you can help 👇

1️⃣ Find unused phones – Most people already have them at home (check your drawers!)
2️⃣ Get it ready for donation – Sign out and factory reset your device before you donate
3️⃣ Pass it on – Drop your device off to Council’s Administration Building in Vincent Street, Cessnock

🐦 Regent Honeyeaters Released 🐦

Recently, 46 Regent Honeyeaters were released to the skies near Kurri Kurri, and BirdLife Australia is looking to the community to help spot and report these Critically Endangered icons.

👀 By reporting sightings, you can help conservationists monitor the birds’ movements and behaviour, providing valuable information that supports the ongoing recovery of this critically endangered species – with as few as 300 birds remaining in the wild.

If you’re lucky enough to spot one, please head to the link below and report your sighting 👇

👷‍♀️ Wollombi Road Upgrade Project – traffic switch begins 🔃

This evening, we'll reach a significant milestone for the Wollombi Rd upgrade project, with the start of the traffic switch that allows work to move to the northern side of the road.

🚧A temporary two coat seal has been applied between Florence and Miller streets, and traffic will now be guided to travel along the southern side of the road in this area. The traffic switch will continue to extend out progressively over coming weeks, until covering the full length of the works area.

In some ways, the traffic switch can be seen as reaching the halfway point of this important project. The team will return to place a final seal over the entire works area in the last phase of the project.

⚠️ As always, motorists are encouraged to follow traffic and directional signage in works areas, particularly so when there is a change in travel conditions.

Further testing of the watermains between West Ave and Lochinvar St is also happening this evening. More details and the notification can be found on our project page 👉 www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/wollombiroad
