😠 Dungog Shire hung out to dry from funding review

The NSW Government Grant’s Commission just completed a review of how the Financial Assistance Grants are distributed to Councils, and after just four days of inviting Council’s to provide their feedback on the proposed changes, they scrapped the entire review.

Under the proposed changes, Dungog would have received an extra $2.2 million a year for road funding. $22 million over ten years would have been lifechanging for our Shire. 😭

To understand why the review was scrapped, Mayor Digby Rayward explains how the Financial Assistance Grants work, how the bigger Councils out-muscled smaller Councils to have the review scrapped, and how the Country Mayor’s Association abandoned us when we needed them most.

These are the important issues our Shire needs to understand in the lead-up to the NSW Government election in March 2027. To find out more, please visit our Fair Funding 4 Dungog website: https://www.fairfunding4dungog.com.au/

Dungog Shire is growing. Our communities are growing. And the roads and infrastructure we rely on every day are under increasing pressure. The only way we can make real and lasting upgrades is through Government funding.

But the way funding is currently allocated means Dungog Shire is continuously missing out.

With a small population and ratepayer base, Council is responsible for an extensive road network that connects our towns and villages, supports agriculture and local businesses, brings visitors to our region and provides access to infrastructure that benefits communities well beyond our Shire.

We don’t expect special treatment. We just want our fair share.

That’s why Dungog Shire Council has launched Fair Funding 4 Dungog, a community advocacy campaign calling for a fairer approach to funding our roads and infrastructure in the lead up to the NSW Government election.

🚦 CLARENCE TOWN BRIDGE: TRAFFIC CHANGES FROM 9 NOVEMBER

Traffic changes at Waterview Road and Limeburners Creek Road intersection will bring additional traffic changes to the Clarence Town Bridge project area from Monday, 9 November 2026.

🚧 What motorists need to know:

• An additional set of temporary traffic lights will operate at the Waterview Road intersection, alongside the existing lights on Durham Street.
• Traffic through the Waterview Road intersection will be reduced to one lane, affecting vehicles approaching from both Clarence Town and Limeburners Creek Road.
• Both sets of lights will operate 24/7, including overnight and on weekends.
• Existing traffic management and 40 km/h speed limits will remain in place on Durham Street and Limeburners Creek Road.

⏰ Please expect additional delays, allow extra travel time and follow all traffic signs and reduced speed limits.

We understand the frustration these arrangements may cause and thank you for your continued patience as we approach the final stages of this important project.
