Who makes your community a better place?

Is it the volunteer you can depend on?

Maybe the coach who inspires our future sports stars?

The neighbour who's always ready to lend a hand?

Or the organisation working to bring people together?

Behind every great community are quiet achievers like Peter Bailey. If you know someone who goes above and beyond to make a difference, nominate them now for our 2027 Australia Day Awards.

👉 Nominate today https://chrc.info/AustraliaDay27

👉 Or find out more https://chrc.info/4xlNQEg

📅 Nominations close 30 November 2026.

New role, familiar face 👋

Jason Hoolihan is nearing the end of his first week as CEO, so we caught up with him for a quick chat.

Many of you may have seen Jason around the region over the years but probably haven’t had a chance to get to know him.

We asked him five questions about himself, the region and what he’s looking forward to in the new role. And because it’s not every day you get to grill the CEO - we saved the hardest-hitting question for last 🧐🍕

📚 New chapter for disaster recovery ❤️‍🩹

Council is helping give children and families the tools to understand, prepare for and recover from natural disasters through the award-winning Birdie's Tree storybook series.

These books use healing and helping stories to help children understand what's happening around them and cope with 'big feelings' like fear and worry during natural disasters and other disruptive events.

Dingo State School was the first recipient of the Birdie's Tree resource kit, with the program now rolling out to libraries and primary schools across the Central Highlands.
