๐Ÿ†๐Ÿš’ Argyle Housing 2027 Stakeholder Awards

Recognising Partnerships, Prevention & Community Safety!

Fire and Rescue NSW Regional South 2 (RS2) has been honoured at the Argyle Housing Annual Stakeholder Awards, recognising our ongoing commitment to improving community safety through education, prevention and preparedness.

Since 2024, RS2 has worked closely with Argyle Housing to deliver tailored fire safety initiatives, including community safety days, home safety visits, targeted education and support for vulnerable residents.

๐Ÿ† The results speak for themselves!

Through this collaborative partnership, Argyle Housing has reported an incredible 80% reduction in fire-related incidents across its properties.

Our firefighters across RS2 have worked alongside residents to identify potential fire hazards, improve smoke alarm coverage, develop home fire safety plans and empower people with the knowledge and confidence to stay safe.

Following a tragic incident at a senior living complex, our crews also supported residents through compassionate, personalised safety education, helping restore confidence and strengthen community resilience.

RS2 Zone Commander Dean proudly accepted the award on behalf of the entire Regional South 2 team, recognising the dedication and tireless efforts of our firefighters in making a genuine difference beyond emergency response.

๐Ÿ‘ A huge thank you to Argyle Housing for recognising our efforts and for their continued commitment to working together to create safer homes and stronger communities.

Fire safety isnโ€™t just about responding when emergencies happen. Itโ€™s about preventing them in the first place. ๐Ÿš’

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ From firefighting foam to virtual firegrounds!

Yesterday, firefighters from 234 Bowral, 305 Goulburn, 378 Mittagong and 385 Moss Vale attended the Fire & Rescue NSW Emergency Services Academy at Orchard Hills for a day of hands-on training and innovation.

๐Ÿงฏ CAFS TRAINING
Crews developed their skills in Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) pump operations, exploring the use of firefighting foams across various emergency situations.

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜Ž FIREFIGHTING MEETS VIRTUAL REALITY!
Firefighters were also treated to demonstrations of cutting-edge simulation technologies transforming emergency services training.

๐Ÿ”ฅ iFire 1.0, developed at UNSWโ€™s iCinema Research Centre, uses AI-driven 3D visualisation to immerse firefighters and incident commanders in realistic virtual bushfire environments, helping them anticipate fire behaviour and strengthen incident management skills.

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ XVR Simulation Software was also demonstrated, showcasing how immersive, scenario-based learning can recreate real-world emergencies in a safe, controlled and environmentally responsible training environment.

These innovative technologies allow firefighters to practise decision-making, develop situational awareness and build operational skills without the risks associated with live emergency environments.

๐Ÿš’ Real skills. Virtual firegrounds. Better prepared firefighters!

A fantastic opportunity for our Regional South 2 crews to embrace new technology, build their skills and continue preparing for whatever comes their way!

โ˜€๏ธโ›ˆ๏ธ Warm weather, rain and plenty of humidity?

Are you feeling the heat and pulling the fan out of storage to keep cool?
Before you plug it in and switch it on, take a minute to give it a quick safety check!

๐Ÿ”Œ A few simple checks can help prevent a fire:

โœ… Check the power cord for fraying, cracks, exposed wires or other damage.
โœ… Inspect the plug for bent pins, discolouration or signs of overheating.
โœ… Check your fan for dust build-up, loose parts or damage before use.
โœ… Plug directly into a wall socket and avoid overloading powerboards or using double adaptors.

โš ๏ธ If you notice a burning smell, unusual noises, sparks or excessive heat, switch off the power and stop using the appliance.

๐Ÿก BE FIRE SAFE IN YOUR HOME!

It only takes a few moments to check your appliances, but those simple checks could prevent a fire and help protect the people you love.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ‘• WET WEATHER CLOTHES DRYING? CHECK THE LINT FILTER! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Rainy days mean more washing heading into the clothes dryer, but before you press START, take a few seconds to check your lint filter!
Did you know that a build-up of lint can restrict airflow, cause your dryer to overheat and potentially start a fire?

Follow these simple safety tips:

โœ… Clean your lint filter before every use.
โœ… Keep vents and airflow areas clear.
โœ… Avoid overloading your dryer.
โœ… Never leave your dryer running while you're sleeping or away from home.
โœ… Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

๐Ÿ โค๏ธ A few seconds of prevention could help keep you and your loved ones safe!

๐Ÿš’ DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

The Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) is an important part of becoming an on-call firefighter with Fire and Rescue NSW. Across three stages, candidates complete tasks designed to assess the physical and functional capabilities needed to work safely and effectively on the fireground.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Stage 1 โ€“ Reduced-visibility search and ladder lift
๐Ÿ’ช Stage 2 โ€“ Functional strength, endurance, balance and coordination through simulated firefighting tasks
๐Ÿš’ Stage 3 โ€“ Fire attack and firefighter rescue simulations

The PAT isnโ€™t about being the strongest or fastest. Itโ€™s about demonstrating you can safely meet the real physical demands of firefighting.

Think you have what it takes? We want to hear from you.

๐Ÿš’ DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

Stage 1 of the Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) includes a Simulated Reduced Visibility Search.

Wearing a frosted mask to significantly reduce visibility, candidates complete a task designed to assess their ability to function when they canโ€™t rely on sight.

๐Ÿ”ฅ This stage helps assess:
โ€ข Functional capability in reduced visibility
โ€ข Ability to work in dark and confined spaces
โ€ข Response to restricted vision and enclosed environments
โ€ข Suitability for conditions firefighters may encounter operationally

Firefighters donโ€™t always get clear air and perfect visibility. Smoke, darkness and confined spaces can quickly change the environment.

The PAT helps ensure candidates have the capability to operate safely when conditions get challenging.
