Ambulance Tasmania has over 900 staff including highly trained salaried paramedics, ambulance officers and students in training as well as 600 volunteer ambulance officers. Collectively these officers work closely with public and private hospitals and health facilities providers, intrastate and interstate organisations. We also work closely with allied emergency services, such as Tasmania Police, the State Emergency Service and the Tasmanian Fire Service. Ambulance Tasmania also contracts the Royal Flying Doctor Service to provide aircraft and pilots for our fixed wing air ambulance operational response and has an association with Tasmania Police for rotary wing movements both intra and interstate. Every October we take some time to celebrate the incredible contributions of Australasian Women in Emergency Services and acknowledge the ongoing work to build more inclusive workplaces.

We celebrate the fantastic women working in the front line across the Department of Health, from the clinical, transport and support staff and volunteers at Ambulance Tasmania to the medical, nursing, allied health, mental health, diagnostic and support staff in our emergency departments.

We recognise the skills, knowledge and leadership you bring in the compassionate care you provide to patients during some of the most difficult times in their lives. Thank you for all you continue to do! 🙌🏼✨

Looking after others is what we do every day at Ambulance Tasmania, but it's just as important that we look after each other.

Yesterday, our Melville Street station had the opportunity to welcome the RU OK? Conversation Convoy as it travels through Tasmania, sharing an important message: a simple conversation can make a real difference.

Taking the time to check in, ask how someone is going and genuinely listen can help people feel supported, connected and encouraged to seek help when they need it.

As first responders, we are regularly exposed to challenging and distressing situations, making it vital to prioritise mental health and wellbeing every day, not just on RU OK? Day.

Today's message is simple: Ask RU OK? Any day. Check in with your colleagues, mates and family. Listen to the answer and, if someone isn't OK, help connect them with the support they need.

Because looking out for each other is just as important as looking after our community.

Ambulance Tasmania are proud to have recently received two prestigious Emergency Management Services Angels Awards.

These awards are distributed by the World Stroke Organization (WSO), an internationally recognised program that acknowledges excellence in pre-hospital stroke care.

Ambulance Tasmania received awards for two operational units based on performance against a range of evidence-based stroke care measures, including timely assessment and transport, pre-notification of receiving hospitals, documentation of key clinical information, and delivery of patients to stroke-ready hospitals.

For the 2026 awards cycle, the South operational unit achieved Platinum status and the North-West operational unit achieved Gold status.

The awards are significant because they provide independent recognition of the high standard of stroke care delivered by our paramedics and demonstrate Ambulance Tasmania's commitment to evidence-informed practice, continuous quality improvement, and improving outcomes for patients experiencing time-critical stroke.

Congratulations to all the recipients.

Calls that are not emergencies can put pressure on our services and staff.

If our emergency call takers, dispatchers and Ambulance crews are tied up with non-emergency work, it can keep us from getting to a genuine emergency.

So, we’re calling on everyone to assess whether their situation is an emergency and preserve this critical lifeline for when it matters most.

For minor illness or non-urgent health concerns such as flu-like symptoms, headache, runny nose or sore throat, support is available from a GP, pharmacist or other healthcare provider.

If you are experiencing a serious or life-threatening medical emergency including chest pain, shortness of breath, confusion or fainting, call Triple Zero without delay.

If you're unsure where to get care, contact healthdirect on 1800 022 222 to talk to a registered nurse anytime or talk to your local GP for advice.

This video is from a nationwide Save Triple Zero campaign, developed in 2022 by the The Council of Ambulance Authorities and features Ambulance Tasmania paramedics sharing the message.

Last week, Ambulance Tasmania joined the Central Highlands Council and the Bothwell community to celebrate the retirement of Volunteer Ambulance Officers Wayne, Tony and Heather, and to recognise the generations of volunteers who have helped care for the community over many years.

Together, Wayne, Tony and Heather have contributed more than 75 years of service to Ambulance Tasmania, answering the call when their community needed them most and leaving a lasting legacy of care, commitment and community spirit.

Thank you for your extraordinary service and dedication.

As these volunteers step back from service, we need local people to step forward. Volunteer Ambulance Officers play a vital role in regional communities, helping friends, neighbours and visitors during some of life's most challenging moments.

If you'd like to make a real difference close to home, we'd love to hear from you.

Recently, our team welcomed 2026 Young Australian of the Year Nedd Brockman and the 2026 state Australian of the Year recipients to the Cambridge helicopter base to learn more about the critical patient transport, air medical retrieval and search and rescue operations delivered by the Tasmanian Emergency Air Service.

Our own Dr Jo Kippax, 2026 Tasmanian of the Year, was on hand to welcome the visitors and provide a tour of the base. Dr Kippax shared insights from the Franklin River Rescue and introduced guests to some of the dedicated team members who work in this unique and highly specialised part of our organisation.

The visit was also a valuable opportunity for our team to hear from the Tasmanian award recipients about their inspiring achievements across the state.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a memorable afternoon.

Five new LUCAS mechanical CPR devices are being rolled out across Tasmania, giving our Intensive Care Paramedics another powerful tool to support patients experiencing cardiac arrest.

These life-saving devices deliver consistent, high-quality chest compressions, allowing paramedics to maintain uninterrupted CPR while focusing on other critical interventions such as airway management, medication administration and patient transport.

The devices are particularly valuable in challenging environments, confined spaces and during transport to hospital, helping to ensure the highest standard of care can continue wherever it's needed.

The new LUCAS devices will be based in Hobart, Glenorchy, Launceston, Burnie and Devonport and will enter operational service in the coming months following comprehensive training for our paramedics.

Some of our Ambulance Tasmania team members recently joined colleagues from Tasmania Police and the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service to participate in a training exercise at Cradle Mountain.

Rescue skills were put to the test with Mother Nature throwing everything at them, snow, strong winds and freezing temperatures 🥶

If you're planning on heading out this winter. Make sure you're well prepared. Check the weather forecasts before you go and remember that conditions can change quickly and unexpectedly.

Stay safe!
