(1)

The Upholstery Workroom is a professional workroom/studio, set in the beautiful valley of Jamberoo on the NSW south coast, about a 2.5hr drive from Sydney. We specialise in small, very friendly, group workshops in upholstery and lampshade-making - and cater to all levels from beginner to advanced. We have a growing range of workshops which offer a choice of making your own new furniture, or shade, or making-over your existing item. All our workshops are run in a Covid safe environment, are focussed on providing a productive as well as fun time with us - and all include freshly home-made yummies for morning or afternoon tea.

✨ A rare opportunity to spend a full day immersed in lampshade making!
Three new workshop dates are coming up:

📍 Jamberoo NSW — Sunday 18 October
📍 Q Gallery, Ainslie ACT — Sunday 1 November
📍 Jamberoo NSW — Sunday 15 November

The morning workshop is hands-on and perfect for beginners. You’ll learn the essential skills of modern lampshade making while making your own shade from scratch, using fabric you bring along. You’ll leave with a professionally finished lampshade — and the skills to make more.

Then there’s the optional afternoon demonstration workshop — and this is something a little unusual.
It’s a rare opportunity to pick up a wealth of insider tips, techniques and practical know-how from an industry professional, gathered over many years of making lampshades professionally.
We’ll delve into making over vintage shades, working with tricky fabrics, making lined shades, tackling unusual frames, choosing the right shade for a lamp base, sourcing materials and lots more.

The afternoon is demonstration-based rather than another making session, simply so I can pack as much information and inspiration as possible into those few hours.

☕ Yummy refreshments are provided at each session. If you’re staying for the full day, Ainslie has excellent cafés right next door for lunch. Jamberoo may not have cafés at the door, but it more than makes up for it with the studio’s truly sensational countryside setting!

You’ll also be able to take home supplies to continue making shades yourself — and both sessions include detailed notes and access to my online lampshade-making course.

Choose the morning, the afternoon, or make a full day of lampshade inspo!

Day 2 Handmade Market Canberra went even better than 1. Canberra folk as well as many folk visiting for Floriade came in droves to this excellent market - and created a great vibe.

My best sale of the whole market happened only minutes after opening on Sunday - this glorious vintage lamp featuring exotic birds with a tall tasseled custom shade - the buyer had no intention of purchasing a lamp, but fell in love with this and couldn’t resist.

The Larapinta Collection of eco-art (eco-dyed fibres embellished with drawn lines) shades was a hit and sold well - Deb Clarke being there to explain her practice added enormously to the experience.

Despite lots of interest and close calls, the stunning pair of Floriade cordless floor lamps (70cm tall, ea with 2 rechargeable, remote-controlled LEDs) didn’t sell - so are still available. If you’d like to know more about them please message.

Thankyou if you visited my stall - Deb and me really loved meeting you.
Hopefully we’ll be back for Christmas market last weekend of November 🤞🤞
