NSW SES Lismore City Unit The NSW SES is the combat agency for Storms, Floods & Tsunami with specialist roles such as Flood Rescue, Large Animal Rescue & Road Crash Rescue.

The Lismore City SES covers the Lismore City LGA - from Nimbin to Dungarubba - Parrots Nest to Clunes. NSW SES (New South Wales State Emergency Service) is the combat agency for floods, storms and tsunami in NSW. Description

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. Lismore City Unit is made up entirely of volunteers, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our major responsibilities are for flood, storm and tsunami operations, the NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. The NSW SES assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include NSW Police Force, NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW. The NSW SES also partners with local communities through Community Engagement Programs like FloodSafe, StormSafe and TsunamiSafe. These programs are supported by strategies and resources, are delivered locally through a range of activities and events and are a priority for NSW SES. The aim is to engage at-risk communities on preparedness. response and recovery measures so that there is no loss of life and impacts caused by these events are minimised. This in turn builds community resilience to floods, storms and tsunami. For further information visit the NSW SES website at http://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/

We’ve had a bit of rain across the area, with some locations receiving up to 50 mm in the past 24 hours. That might mean some of our low-lying roads in the upper catchments may have had water across them overnight.

If there’s water over the road, please don’t take the chance. Don’t drive, ride or walk through floodwater. Turn around and find another way.

Slow down if driving, put your headlights on, leave a bit more space and drive to the conditions.

Look after yourselves and each other. 🧡

If it’s flooded, forget it.

🎉 Congratulations to Our 2026 NSW SES Youth Interns! 🎉

A huge congratulations to the 14 young people who have successfully completed the NSW SES Youth Internship Program during Term 3, 2026 at Lismore City Unit.

Over the course of the program, these interns have demonstrated commitment, enthusiasm, and a genuine desire to learn more about emergency services, volunteering leadership, teamwork and developing their practical skills.

Through hands-on activities, training sessions, and engagement with volunteers and other emergency service agencies, they have gained valuable insights into how NSW SES supports communities before, during, and after emergencies.

Throughout the internship, participants developed their understanding of:
✅ Emergency management and incident response
✅ Teamwork, leadership, and communication skills
✅ Community preparedness
✅ The diverse volunteer roles that help keep communities safe
✅ The importance of service, collaboration, and helping others

The knowledge, skills, and experiences gained through this program will not only support their own personal and professional development but will also contribute to building stronger, more capable communities into the future.

Programs like this demonstrate the important role young people play in shaping the future of emergency. We are proud to see these talented young people stepping up, learning new skills, and making a positive difference.

A special thank you to the many volunteers and partner agencies who dedicated their time to coordinate, train, mentor, and facilitate the program. Your passion, knowledge, and commitment created meaningful learning experiences and helped inspire the next generation of community leaders and volunteers.

Well done to all 14 interns on this fantastic achievement. We look forward to seeing where your journey takes you next!

Earlier this week, Lismore City SES was called to assist with two cows stuck in the river, and this was definitely a team effort!

Thankfully, we had a few extra hands on scene, with four guys who happened to be there pitching in, along with the farmer and his trusty tractor. 🚜

That added manpower (and a bit of horsepower) made the job much easier than it otherwise would have been!

By the time we wrapped up and headed back to the Unit, both cows were sitting up, looking alert and hopefully reconsidering their choice of swimming spot.

A great reminder that when the community comes together, even a tricky job can be made that little bit easier.

Big thanks to everyone who lent a hand! 👏

🔥🌩️ IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN! 🌩️🔥

Just when you thought you only had to worry about Storm Season… surprise!

It’s also Bushfire Season and this year, it's expected to be pretty warm and dry.

While we’re busy getting ready for storms and whatever else Mother Nature decides to throw at us, our mates in yellow are getting ready for fire season 💪🔥🚒

So don’t forget to follow your local NSW RFS brigade page or NSW RFS - Northern Rivers Zone to stay up to date with fire activity, warnings and important information.

🌩️ We’ll watch the skies.
🔥 They’ll watch the bush.
☕ And together, we’ll probably drink far too much coffee. 😅

Stay informed, stay prepared and know what you’ll do if things get serious.

Different colours. Same community. One heck of a team. 🧡💛

Operation: Pretty Trucks!

Not every SES job involves climbing on rooves, getting wet or covered in mud…
Sometimes, we have to get the mud off first!

The crew at Lismore City SES have been out giving the fleet a good scrub today as part of our regular maintenance.
And what a beautiful day for it!

A clean truck is a happy truck, and a well-maintained truck is a truck we can rely on when the call comes.

Cleaned. Checked. Maintained. Ready to roll.

Now… who wants to volunteer for the wheel arches? 👀
