Fire and Rescue NSW Station 371 Macksville

Call Directions Website

Fire and Rescue NSW Station 371 Macksville Macksvile (371) is a Retained Fire Station with 15 staff On Call to assist the community.

As one of the world's largest urban fire and rescue services, we manage fire emergencies in NSW's major cities and towns. We respond to rescues, hazardous materials incidents and possible terrorism activities across the State. We work with other government agencies to minimise the impact of bushfires, storms, floods, landslides, building collapses, motor vehicle accidents and other emergencies. We also run prevention and preparedness programs to prevent these emergencies and reduce their impact on the community.

Spring cleaning is a good time to check what’s hiding in the cupboard. Safely clear out old or unwanted household chemicals and keep anything you’re holding onto stored securely and in its original container.

Always dispose of unwanted chemicals safely. Contact your local council for information on upcoming Household Chemical Clean out events.

Spring is a good time to clear out what’s built up around your home. Remove leaves and debris from gutters and cut back overgrown vegetation close to the house.

Keeping these areas clear can help reduce the risk as bushfire season approaches.

END OF AN ERA AT 371

Today marks the end of an incredible chapter for Captain David “Bruno” Brunsdon, who retires after an outstanding 44 years of service to Fire and Rescue NSW and the Macksville community.

For many people around Macksville, Bruno and the fire brigade have simply always gone together. His connection to the station goes back even further than his own service, with his father serving as Captain when Bruno was a kid.

In fact, Bruno has been around so long that we’re still not entirely convinced he isn’t one of the firefighters pictured with the horse and cart in the old photos hanging on the station wall.

Over 44 years, Bruno has attended more incidents than we could ever hope to count and has trained and mentored generations of firefighters, including every member of our current crew. His knowledge, experience and ability to remain calm under pressure will be greatly missed.

Of course, becoming Captain never stopped Bruno from wanting to be right in the middle of the action. Anyone who has worked an incident with him will be familiar with the question:

“Where’s Bruno?”

Usually the answer was “on the end of a branch” or somewhere else he probably wasn’t supposed to be while he was meant to be in charge.

And while his firefighting knowledge will be difficult to replace, so too will his legendary ability to put off until tomorrow anything that could have been done today.

Behind Bruno’s 44 years of service has also been a family who shared him with the brigade and the community. We would like to sincerely thank his wife Marg, sons Joel and Blake, and daughter Mareesa for their support over the years and for the countless interrupted dinners, family occasions and plans when the pager went off.

Bruno, thank you for 44 years of service, for your leadership and mentorship, and most importantly, for the friendship and laughs along the way.

It’s difficult to imagine Station 371 without you, and we’re genuinely sad to see you go.

Enjoy retirement, mate. You’ve certainly earned it.

Although knowing Bruno, he’ll probably put that off until tomorrow too.

Congratulations Captain David “Bruno” Brunsdon. From all the past and present firefighters of Station 371 Macksville, thank you. 🚒❤️
