🐶🐱🐴 Are your pets included in your fire plan? 🔥

Our pets are part of the family, so it's important to plan for their safety too!

Having a plan that includes your furry (and feathered!) family members can help reduce stress and make it easier to act quickly in an emergency.

🔴 Understanding CATASTROPHIC Fire Danger Ratings 🔴

ℹ️ This is an educational post, not a current Fire Danger Rating or forecast ℹ️

❓ What does a CATASTROPHIC rating mean? ❓

If a fire starts and takes hold, lives are likely to be lost. These are the worst conditions for a bush or grass fire. Schools, parks, forests and some businesses will close when a Catastrophic day is declared.

📋 What should you do? 📋

For your survival, leave bushfire risk areas. Your life may depend on the decision you make, even before there is a fire.

Stay safe by going to a safer location early in the morning or the night before. Homes cannot withstand fires in these conditions. You may not be able to leave and help may not be available. Avoid forested areas, thick bush or long, dry grass.

⚠️ Know your trigger to leave ⚠️

Make a decision about:
1. When you will leave
2. Where you will go
3. How you will get there
4. When you will return
5. What will you do if you cannot leave

Stay informed via:
- listen to your emergency broadcasters such as ABC Local Radio 774am or Plenty Valley FM 88.6

- keep up with VicEmergency via the Hotline on 1800 226 226, app, or website https://www.emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/

🟠 Understanding EXTREME Fire Danger Ratings 🟠
ℹ️ This is an educational post, not a current Fire Danger Rating or forecast ℹ️

❓ What does an EXTREME rating mean? ❓

These are dangerous fire conditions and the safest option is to leave fire risk areas early in the morning or the night before.

Fires will spread quickly and be extremely dangerous. Expect extremely hot, dry and windy conditions.

📋 What should you do? 📋
1. Take action now to protect your life and property.
2. Check your bushfire plan and that your property is fire ready. If a fire starts, take immediate action. If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
3. Reconsider travel through bushfire risk areas. Leaving bushfire risk areas early in the day is your safest option.
4. Be aware of local conditions and seek information.

🔥 Did you know Fire Danger Ratings show how dangerous a fire could be if one starts? 🔥

Fire Danger Ratings help you understand the level of fire risk and the actions you may need to take to stay safe.

🇦🇺 The same rating system is used across Australia, with four levels:

1. 🟢 MODERATE – Plan and prepare

2. 🟡 HIGH – Be ready to act

3. 🟠 EXTREME – Take action now to protect your life and property

4. 🔴 CATASTROPHIC – For your survival, leave bushfire risk areas

🌤️ Ratings are forecast up to four days in advance, based on weather and environmental conditions.

📱 The rating is your trigger to take action to stay safe.

Make checking the Fire Danger Rating part of your routine. 👉 Learn more about Fire Danger Ratings: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-and-restrictions/fire-bans-ratings-and-restrictions/about-fire-danger-ratings
