Another week, another “you can’t make this stuff up” moment at Highway Patrol 🚔
Some weeks at Highway Patrol, you start to think you’ve seen it all. Then someone comes along and reminds you that imagination is no match for reality.
Tuesday night – Langwarrin Plaza
At around 9 pm, a 47-year-old Langwarrin man managed to drive his vehicle into a water meter in the Langwarrin Plaza car park, leaving his car perched on top of it. Not content with simply getting himself into trouble, he then proceeded to burn out his clutch trying to free the vehicle.
When that failed, he apparently decided the car was no longer serving any useful purpose and opted to continue his journey on foot.
Unfortunately for him, Highway Patrol members were on hand to bring his little adventure to an early conclusion. He was located nearby and returned a breath alcohol concentration of .218%.
His licence was immediately suspended, and he can now look forward to explaining his evening’s decision-making to a magistrate. One thing is certain: the water meter wasn’t the only thing that took a hit that night.
Wednesday night – Frankston
Fast-forward to Wednesday, and it seems the universe wasn’t finished testing the patience of Highway Patrol members.
At around 9 pm, members returning to the office spotted a concrete pumping truck that caught their attention for all the wrong reasons. Something about it just didn’t look right.
After intercepting the truck in Frankston, they discovered the tyres were in a condition best described as one pothole away from a complete separation agreement. One tyre had already fully delaminated, while the others looked like they were preparing to follow suit.
When members approached the 61-year-old Narre Warren driver to discuss the rather obvious tyre issues, the inspection uncovered a few more problems. The driver was unlicensed and returned a positive roadside drug test.
The truck was immediately grounded, putting an end to its road trip before the tyres could make any further decisions of their own.
The driver can also expect a date with the courts in the near future.
Two nights. Two very different vehicles. One common theme: some people really shouldn’t be driving.
Highway Patrol members will keep doing what they do best — keeping our roads safe, one questionable decision at a time.
And if this week has taught us anything, it’s that you can’t make this stuff up. You don’t have to. 🚔
