New ways to play in our Infants COLA!
A very big thank you to our wonderful P&C for investing some of their fundraising proceeds in new resources for the Infants toy stand.
Students can now choose from extra-large LEGO, Mobilo, monster trucks, cars, dinosaur play, dress-ups, giant Jenga, a beanbag target, medical play, a grocery set and balance stepping stones.
These fantastic additions provide even more opportunities for imaginative and active play, creativity, cooperation, problem-solving and plenty of fun with friends.
Every purchase made and every P&C fundraiser supported helps create opportunities like these for our students. Thank you to our P&C—and to the families and community members who support their fundraising—for continuing to enrich school life at OPS. 💙

Our Stage 2 Aboriginal students thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Orange Regional Museum yesterday where they participated in the annual First Nations Engagement Day. Students learned to do some weaving, created Aboriginal artworks, learned about caring for Country and explored traditional foods, animals and plants.

💙💛💚❤️ Little legs, big enthusiasm — K–2 Sports Day!

Our youngest students brought their house colours and plenty of energy to the Infants site on Thursday 15 October for a day of friendly competition, teamwork and having a go!

With our Year 6 student leaders guiding the house activities, there were opportunities to build confidence, encourage friends and earn points for each house.

💛 Leawarra — 250 points
💙 Kawana — 249 points
💚 Arunta — 232 points
❤️ Maranoa — 221 points

Just one point separated our top two houses! These points are added to the overall house totals for the House Shield, presented at Presentation Days.

The day concluded with grade running finals, following heats held at school late last term. Congratulations to our placegetters and to every student who participated and supported their friends! 👏

💛 A special day with some very special people!

On Friday, OPS welcomed grandparents and special visitors for our Grandparents Day celebrations.

Open classrooms offered a chance to share in the children’s learning, while our concerts brought students together to celebrate through music, dance and verse speaking. There’s something lovely about looking out into an audience and spotting someone who is there just for you! 🥰

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our staff and students for making our visitors feel so welcome. We loved sharing a little of life at OPS with you! 💚💛

📅 What’s coming up at OPS? Here’s where to look!
Presentation days, special events and those all-important end-of-year dates… wondering where to find them?
If you’ve been looking for the calendar in our newsletter, there’s now a handy place to check: the School Bytes parent app!
Here’s how:
📱 Open the School Bytes app and tap Calendar at the bottom of the home screen.
🟣 Look for the dots beneath the dates — these show that an event is listed. Tap a date and look below the calendar for the event details.
➡️ Use the arrows to move between months and see what’s coming up.
With a busy term ahead, it’s a great time to take a look and pop those important dates into your family calendar.

Student Leadership begins before the school day—and continues after the bell.
School Captain Frankie L and SRC representative Daisy B are carrying out one of the important daily responsibilities entrusted to our Student Leaders: raising and lowering the flags at OPS.

Each morning, rostered leaders collect and unfold the flags, carry them respectfully and follow the correct protocols as they are raised. At the end of the day, they return to lower, carefully fold and safely store them for the following morning.

Before undertaking this role, our leaders are trained in the correct protocols and respectful handling of each flag. It is a daily responsibility requiring care, teamwork, reliability and pride in our school.

Another opportunity for our Student Leaders to show that leadership is found in the things we do consistently, thoughtfully and well. 💙

🌟 Ever wondered what our Student Leaders get up to?

There’s plenty that happens above and beyond their Year 6 learning and extracurricular activities!

One of their many responsibilities is completing the afternoon Green Notes job. Each afternoon, rostered leaders help ensure clear and timely information reaches students and staff across our school.

Pictured here, Vice Captain Bella B and SRC representative Josh C are completing this important afternoon task. 📝👏

Is it simply delivering a few notes? Not quite! It requires our leaders to be organised, reliable and efficient—and to understand that others are depending on them to communicate important information before the end of the school day.

It may happen quietly behind the scenes, but it plays an important part in keeping our school informed and running smoothly.

Just one of the many ways our Student Leaders learn to lead by doing. 💙
