🐢 November is Turtle Month. Have you seen a turtle in the wild on Eyre Peninsula? 🐢
Our colleagues at Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board run a statewide turtle project and have been surprised to see some historical sightings reported on Eyre Peninsula via the Turtle STAT portal and Atlas of Living Australia database, largely around the lower EP area but also as far up as near Port Neill and the Mitchell area and even an eastern longneck sample at SA Museum from Cleve.
They are in the process of trying to verify these interesting records and locations.
👀 We’d love your help to find out more about turtles in the wild on EP. November is when turtles are often on the move and come out to nest. So if you see a turtle in the wild or a turtle nest, please put the sighting on the TurtleSAT website or app ✅
If you have an older photo of a turtle, you can also add back-dated entries.
📸 A Longneck turtle and a disturbed nest (when disturbed by a predator you will see a shallow hole with small white broken eggshells around it, when they haven’t been destroyed they are very hard to find).
ℹ If anyone as any other local turtle stories or has difficulty with using TurtleSAT, please reach out to 📲[email protected].
