Do you know that just one battery in your bin can spark a fire. Please remember: Batteries cannot be disposed of in kerbside bins as they contain hazardous chemicals and can create a fire if the battery gets damaged, such as when compacted in a garbage truck.

When your batteries can no longer be used, tape the terminals (the end parts) and drop them off at Community Recycling Centres and major retailers. Find a safe place to drop off your batteries at:

`Narrow Escapes In Mill Fire
SYDNEY, March 30, 1953. Twenty men who were having their lunch in a first floor room had to climb to safety through windows and down ladders hurriedly obtained by workmates on the ground after a fire had broken out in a Pyrmont flour mill. One man was blown 12 feet through a door into a yard. Recently installed machinery was lost in the blaze, which caused £30.000 damage. Firemen from seven brigades saved the major partof the mill, which contained machinery worth £lm.

For those not recognising the site, it is where Coles is currently located, at the intersection of Union and Edward Streets.

𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲!

At 3:30am on the 10th of May, 20 years ago, firefighters were called to one of Sydney's more dramatic blazes. The historic St Barnabas Church in Ultimo was already engulfed in flames when 018 Glebe and 038 Pyrmont stations arrived, with fire tearing through windows and towering above the roofline.

With 350 residents evacuated and neighbouring buildings under threat, crews launched a fierce two-hour battle, deploying three aerial appliances to attack the blaze from above while working to protect the adjoining church hall and hotel.

After an intense fight, the fire was contained, but the beloved church and the upper level of the adjacent hall were lost. Thankfully, no one was injured.

𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐫 "𝐖𝐚𝐲 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲",

An explosion blew apart the front and rear doors of a printing house in Glebe during a major fire on 25 February 1984.
More than 45 firefighters and 12 appliances fought the blaze for nearly two hours to bring it under control. Glebe, Headquarters and Pyrmont were initially called to the fire in the Foreign Language Publications building situated in Grose Street, Glebe, at 4.35am.
The two storey brick, stone, concrete and timber building was well alight when firefighters arrived and additional backup crews were requested.
At the height of the fire the total response was two aerial appliances, seven pumpers, two salvages, one mobile control, one breathing apparatus van, 11 Station Officers, 45 firefighters, a Chaplain, a Superintendent and two District Officers.
Responding Brigades found the printing house well alight with both the front and rear doors blown open by an internal explosion. Fire spread rapidly throughout the building because of the stored piles of paper and inks.
After thorough investigation by NSW Fire Brigades personnel, the cause of fire was believed to be arson, so further investigation was handed over to the police.
