🔥 FIRE SEASON IS HERE — ARE YOU BUSHFIRE READY, TASMANIA? 🔥

As we head into another fire season, now is the time to prepare your family, home and property before the hot, dry and windy days arrive.

A few simple steps now can make a huge difference when conditions change quickly. Don’t wait until you see smoke to start thinking about safety!

🚒 🔥 TOP TIPS TO STAY SAFE THIS FIRE SEASON 🔥

✅ 1. Have a bushfire plan
Know your risk, decide when you will leave, where you will go and how you will get there. Make sure everyone in your household understands the plan. Leaving early is always the safest option.

✅ 2. Prepare your property

* Clear leaves and debris from gutters.
* Keep grass short and remove excess dry vegetation around your home.
* Move firewood, outdoor furniture and other flammable items away from the house.
* Ensure gates and accessways are clear for emergency vehicles.
* Make sure your property number is clearly visible from the road.

✅ 3. Pack an emergency kit
Have essential items ready, including drinking water, food, medications, first aid supplies, a torch, battery-powered radio, phone charger, important documents, clothing and supplies for children and pets.

✅ 4. Check fire danger ratings and warnings
Conditions can change quickly. Check official updates regularly, especially on hot, dry and windy days. Never assume you will receive a warning directly.

✅ 5. Know when to leave
If a bushfire threatens your area, don’t wait until the last minute. Smoke, falling embers and changing wind conditions can make roads dangerous very quickly. Have your vehicle ready and leave early according to your bushfire plan.

✅ 6. Be careful with fire and machinery
Follow fire permits, restrictions and Total Fire Ban requirements. Take care when using angle grinders, welders, mowers and other equipment that can create sparks. Never leave an outdoor fire unattended, and ensure it is completely extinguished.

✅ 7. Look after your neighbours
Check in on elderly residents, people with limited mobility and anyone who may need assistance preparing or leaving early. A little preparation and community support can go a long way.

🚒 Today is St Florian’s Day - also known as International Firefighter’s Day.

❤️ It's a time for us to thank every firefighter - past and present - for their bravery, dedication, and commitment to protecting lives and communities.

❤️ We pause to remember and honour those firefighters who sadly lost their lives protecting others. May they rest in peace.

Our fire crew were proud to assist with a vegetation fire at Cleveland in the Northern Midlands.

The cause has been determined as accidental, with the landowner operating slashing equipment when blades struck a rock, sparking the fire. Thanks to a quick response and strong teamwork on the ground, the fire was brought under control and the area made safe over the last few days.

A timely reminder as conditions dry out: take extra care when using machinery, especially during elevated fire danger periods. One small spark can quickly turn into something much bigger.

🔥 Summer Safety and Registered Burns — Stay Safe, Tasmania! 🔥

As summer approaches and fire danger increases across the state, the Tasmania Fire Service wants to remind everyone that registered burns and fire permits are key to keeping our communities safe. With hotter, drier conditions forecast and fire danger rising, it’s more important than ever to plan carefully and follow safety rules before lighting up.

Let’s work together to make this summer as safe as possible — plan ahead, register your burns, and stay informed with the latest fire danger updates. 🌞🔥💧

The Fire Permit Period for all of Tasmania will start tomorrow (Tuesday, 16 December 2025) – this means from 2am Fire Permits will be required across the state until the end of the 2025-26 bushfire season 🔥📃

If you have a property and you wish to conduct a burn (larger than 1 cubic metre in size) on your property, you will need to apply for a free Fire Permit by submitting an application online at fire.tas.gov.au or calling the Tasmania Fire Service on 1800 000 699

📲 During a Fire Permit Period:

📑 People intending to light a fire for burning vegetation or for a similar purpose must obtain a permit.

📑 People intending to light a fire at a sawmill or factory for burning wood waste or other flammable material must obtain a permit.

📑 People intending to light a fire for cooking, warmth or disposal of garden waste do not require a permit provided that:
❌ The fire is not lit in peat, humus or marram grass.
❌ The fire is attended by a responsible adult at all times until it is extinguished.
❌ All flammable material is removed for at least three metres radius from the fire.
❌ It is less than one cubic metre in size.

🔥 Firefighters and partner agencies are continuing to respond to multiple bushfires in southern Tasmania.

⚠️ One Watch and Act warning remains in place for Dolphin Sands and surrounding areas, and five advice warnings are in place for other fires, predominantly in the south of the state.

So far, approximately 700 hectares have been burnt in the Dolphin Sands fire and sadly we can confirm that 19 houses, 15 outbuildings and 4 vehicles have been damaged in the fire.

Weather conditions today have been more favourable, and firefighters, including aerial resources are making good progress on containing the fire.

A community meeting has taken place in Swansea this afternoon in order to keep the members of the public updated.

Everyone should continue to stay informed and follow official updates:
