Another Wallaby has lost her life on our island roads 😪 to leaving behind a 270-gram joey. 💔

Please be mindful of wildlife when driving, follow the speed limit, and pay attention to your surroundings 👀 when close to wetland and bush areas. 🌳🦘

Yesterday on Channel Street, a wallaby was accidentally hit. The people in the car quickly contacted Wildlife Russell Island / 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝟬𝟰𝟭𝟭 𝟮𝟲𝟳 𝟲𝟭𝟮, who was able to attend within 10 minutes.

Michelle followed care procedures, but sadly, as is often the case, the wallaby started to show signs of stress myopathy. She immediately contacted Tracy from Loveable Pets to use BIPEAS, the island's after-hours pet ambulance service, with the assistance of Redland Bay Coastguard. The wallaby was then transported to the mainland, where the RSPCA was waiting to arrange euthanasia.

Thanks to everyone's quick and efficient work, the wallaby was not left to suffer a long and painful death. Although the outcome may not always be positive, sometimes the best outcome is getting an animal put out of pain as quickly as possible.

Thanks again to everyone involved, as this little guy is no longer suffering.
