Meet our Local Disaster Coordination Centre workforce! 💛🔥🌧️

When a natural disaster hits, some Council employees step out of their usual roles and into the Local Disaster Coordination Centre.

These are the people who:

⚡help open sandbag stations, evacuation centres and places of refuge
⚡organise responses to fallen trees, flooded areas and more
⚡plan how to support the community after severe weather impacts
⚡stay in the loop to keep Disaster Dashboard updated
⚡work with weather experts to send local warnings and advice
⚡get the most up to date information to residents when they need it most.

Natural disasters move fast, so these staff members train year round to handle the unpredictability and support our services and communities when things get tough.

And while they’re preparing behind the scenes, you can get ready at home too.

The recent rain is a timely reminder to stock up your sandbags. Preparation now means peace of mind and resilience when severe weather strikes.

Have you seen the rainbow at Woorim Beach? 👀🌈

This is our beach nourishment project that's restoring 175,000 cubic metres of sand at Woorim using a technique called 'rainbowing'.

The project will restore sand levels ahead of summer and storm season to protect the coastal environment and nearby property from further erosion sustained during Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. 🌊

The beach will remain open during works. Please exercise caution and follow directions from Council staff and surf life savers while using the beach.

Sustainable Halloween? That's a treat, not a trick! 👻

Try these simple spooky swaps:
🧛 Wear a costume you've already got or find one second-hand
🍬 Take treat wrappers to a soft plastics collection point at Woolworths stores
🕸️ Ditch plastic spiderwebs and choose reusable decorations instead
🎃 Compost your jack-o-lantern after use to avoid extra food waste

Let's keep the scares in Halloween, not in our environment! 🎃♻️

When it comes to disposing of Halloween waste, don't rely on ghost stories. Summon the Recycle Mate app to find the right disposal option 👉 https://ow.ly/3eJf5100nGl
