Sustainable practices at our The Lane Cove Toy Library

At The Lane Cove Toy Library we are passionate about great educational toys, puzzles and games for your children. We also have family games in our quest to bring back the family games night.

We are also passionate about sustainability. One of our volunteers was in the beautiful Adelong near Tumut when they went into the community craft store and saw reusable bags being made from Large Rice bags and dog food bags. We don’t like single use plastic so our volunteer grabbed it and now the bag is used when our members come and borrow toys. The bag keeps being reused and reused.

Happy volunteers make a happy library! 😊

Meet Madeleine and Idan, all smiles at the end of their shift at The Sydney Library of Things’ Lane Cove branch.

If you’d like to give back to your community and you care about sustainability, come and volunteer with us! We have branches at Waverton, Lane Cove and the Northern Beaches (Cromer).

🔧 Repair hubs
We run two community repair hubs: the Fix It Hub at Waverton and The Fixery on the Northern Beaches. We can also bring a repair hub to your workplace. If your organisation believes in sustainability, get in touch at [email protected]

🛠️ Workshops
We run workshops at the Coal Loader showing you how to use the items you can borrow. Keep an eye on the North Sydney Council website for dates.

🧸 But wait, there’s more…
We also run the Lane Cove Toy Library, with over 2,000 toys, games and puzzles to borrow, for ages 0 to adult! The Lane Cove Toy Library

As we always say: Why buy when you can borrow? ♻️

Love borrowing? Love helping people? Come join our Front Desk team!

The Sydney Library of Things is looking for friendly, community-minded volunteers to join our Waverton Front Desk team at The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability.

Front Desk volunteers are the welcoming face of the Library - helping members borrow and return items, answering questions, checking equipment and keeping things running smoothly. You don’t need to know everything about our 300-ish items that people can borrow - we’ll show you the ropes!

The commitment is 8–10 Front Desk shifts a year, with shifts on Saturday mornings from 8.30am-12pm. It’s a great way to meet people, learn new skills and be part of a friendly team that’s helping people borrow rather than buy.

Interested? Come along to our short info session on 21 November to find out more about the role, what’s involved and whether it’s for you.

More information & register here:

We’d love to see you!
