Our next generation of horticulture leaders are here and boy are they passionate!

I joined young growers and emerging industry leaders in Toowoomba earlier this week for the inaugural Future Hort Leaders Forum.

From family farms to new technology, these young Queenslanders will help shape the future of our primary industries.

With a $30 million Sowing the Seeds of farming Innovation Fund and our Prosper 2050 plan, we’re backing an industry full of opportunity.

Thankyou to the Future Farmers Network for having me!

🙌🏾 MEET TYLER SMITH

Tyler is a great example of what can happen when young people are given the right support, encouragement and opportunities.

Vice-Captain at Toowoomba State High School this year and part of the Clontarf Foundation, Tyler has successfully secured a job with the John Holland Group, the principal contractor for our new Toowoomba Hospital.

Clontarf works with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men to help them stay at school, finish Year 12 and move into employment. Through strong relationships, a welcoming environment and a wide range of activities, the program helps build confidence, self-esteem and the skills needed for life beyond school.

Across the three local campuses, Toowoomba State High School, Wilsonton State High School and Harristown State High School, 289 boys are currently taking part in Clontarf.

Congratulations Tyler -you’ve done the hard work, and no an exciting new chapter begins!

🙏🏼 Thank you, Your Excellency.

After five years serving Queensland as its 27th Governor, we say farewell to Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM and Professor Nimmo as they prepare to begin their next chapter.

It has been a pleasure getting to know Dr Young and Professor Nimmo. Their warmth, kindness and genuine interest in the Toowoomba Region has been very welcome, and their dedication to serving Queensland has been wonderful to see.

We wish you both every happiness and all the very best for the next chapter.

On November 1, the Honourable Justice Thomas Bradley will take office as Queensland’s 28th Governor.

We look forward to welcoming him to the role and to our beautiful region.

“Wishing you happiness, good spirits and plenty to celebrate!”

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Tonight we’re celebrating our Scottish roots at the Society of St Andrew of Scotland dinner.

Haggis will be on the menu, along with Highland dancing and, of course, my favourite - the bagpipes! 🎶

Proudly sporting the McDonald tartan, while Lisa is wearing her family’s Wilson tartan.

🕯️ Tonight we lit a candle for Helen Haines MP, her family and her staff.

From my perspective, the mindless and targeted attack on Helen was a direct attack on the very things that make our nation great - democracy and our way of life.

Elected officials at all levels of government are increasingly being subjected to verbal and physical abuse.

It’s un-Australia, unnecessary and needs to change.

C’mon Aussie - be better!
