RRL Reads: Baby Food Bible by Julia Tellidis and Lauren Skora

I absolutely loved ‘Baby Food Bible’ by Julia Tellidis and Lauren Skora. It was the perfect simple starting solids refresher, and a very welcome reminder that feeding a baby really doesn’t have to be complicated!
I loved that the food in this book, we’re already eating in meals as a family, slightly modified for baby. No special shopping list or fancy ingredients! Just simple, fresh, nourishing food from the fridge and cupboard.
It also gives really helpful guidance on how much to offer, and encourages a relaxed mix of purées and baby-led weaning rather than making you feel like you have to choose one “right” way.
First-baby-me: definitely overthought solids.
Second-baby-me: needed this book to say, “Bec… just give the baby some dinner.” 😂
Such a warm, practical and reassuring guide whether you’re starting solids for the first, second, third (or beyond!) time.
Highly recommend!

RRL Reads: The Road Trip by Tricia Stringer
Sharyn is about to celebrate her 60th birthday. She is hoping that the surprise her husband, Barry, has planned is a luxury overseas holiday. He doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to birthday presents, and this year will be no different. Barry has bought a caravan, (without consultation!), and planned a trip from Adelaide to Broome. Tagging along is Barry’s friend Ray, and his sister Kathleen – people Sharyn is not particularly fond of. How is Sharyn going to live this down with her social friend group who already think Barry is a loser? So begins the road trip, where anything, and everything, can go wrong.
As the four buddies travel through the great Australian outback in close confines, meeting people along the way, we see the relationships between the four change and develop.
I really loved reading this story and enjoyed the character development. Being a caravaner myself, I have experienced many of the mishaps endured by the foursome, (just not all on the one trip!), which made the story very relatable. Sometimes a little too relatable eg. the reversing arguments!
The story had me smiling often and wishing I was back on the road. There is an interesting little twist at the end, which was a lovely surprise.
It really is a great Australian story!

RRL Reads: A Little Unwell by

Set in Melbourne, ‘A Little Unwell’, follows Amy, a young doctor working through her emergency department rotation.
Amy has always aspired to be a doctor, working towards the goal since high school, but now that she is in her second year working in a hospital, she is starting to wonder if all her work has been worth it.
I picked up this book because I had read another review recommending it, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s both funny and heartwarming with very realistic characters. Kerry Jewell’s medical background is really evident in all the details she includes in the book which gives readers an interesting insight into the medical system from a doctor’s point of view but doesn’t weigh down the narrative.
I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Australian fiction and wants to discover a new author.
