Happy Halloween from Antigonish County Fire Department!
Tonight’s all about fun and frights, but let’s keep it safe for everyone out there!

Halloween Safety Tips:

Check costumes for visibility — add reflective tape or carry a flashlight

Keep decorations flame-free — use battery candles instead of real ones

Watch for traffic — drivers, slow down and stay alert in neighborhoods

Stay with your group — kids should never trick-or-treat alone

Test smoke alarms — a quick check can save lives.

Happy Halloween everyone!

🚒🔥 ANOTHER HUGE MILESTONE FOR THE ANTIGONISH AREA FIRE & RESCUE TRAINING CENTRE! 🔥🚒

Every new stage of development brings us one step closer to making this dream a reality, and this week we have something pretty exciting to share!

🎉 TWO SEA CANS HAVE OFFICIALLY ARRIVED ON SITE! 🎉

To some, they may look like ordinary storage containers. But to us, they represent something so much bigger!

These containers will become part of our LIVE FIRE TRAINING UNIT! 🔥

This means firefighters will have the opportunity to experience realistic fire conditions, including extreme heat, smoke, limited visibility, and various emergency scenarios, all within a controlled training environment.

Imagine being able to experience what it's like inside a burning structure BEFORE having to face the real thing.

That experience is invaluable.

🚒 BUT HERE'S WHY THIS MATTERS SO MUCH...

One of our biggest goals is to help firefighters throughout our area obtain their Level 1 Firefighter Certification.

Currently, there is NO training available in Nova Scotia to obtain certified Level 1 Firefighter qualifications.

Let that sink in.

We have dedicated volunteer firefighters throughout our communities who are ready and willing to serve, but without access to the training required to achieve this certification, their ability to perform certain emergency operations is restricted.

Something many people may not realize is that firefighters must have the appropriate training and qualifications before they can safely enter a burning structure.

That means some of the very people who volunteer to protect our communities are not yet qualified to enter a burning building to fight a fire or perform a rescue.

Think about that for a moment.

These are people willing to leave their families, their jobs, and their beds in the middle of the night to answer your call for help.

They have the courage. They have the dedication. They have the desire to protect you.

What they need is access to the training that allows them to do so safely and effectively.

❤️ THAT IS WHY THIS TRAINING CENTRE MATTERS.

We aren't simply building a facility.

We're creating opportunities for our firefighters to become better trained, better prepared, and better equipped to protect the communities they serve.

Every milestone brings us closer to a future where more of our local firefighters can obtain the certification they need.

And when the day comes that you need us most, we want to be ready.

To everyone who continues to support this project through donations, fundraising, volunteering, and encouragement, these milestones belong to you too!

Two containers today. Countless training opportunities tomorrow. And potentially lives saved for years to come. ❤️

On behalf of the Antigonish County Volunteer Fire Department, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to John and Joe at Alex MacDonald Motors for their many years of service to our department and community.

Our department has been a customer for many years, from filling our trucks, running up for propane for an event to stopping in for a cold pop and a treat after a call, we thank you!

It’s sad to see a long-standing local business closing its doors after so many years. Thank you, John and Joe, for everything you’ve done for us and for the community over the years.

We wish everyone all the very best in whatever comes next!

Thank you for your many years of service and support

A big thank you to AEC for welcoming us and taking the time to learn about fire safety!

Having the opportunity to connect with approximately 600 students made for a busy and rewarding visit.

Thank you to Antigonish Town Fire Department for joining us and helping teach so many eager learners. Mutual aid at its finest!

The kids got an up-close demonstration of our breathing apparatus (BA), including what we look and sound like while wearing it.

One of our most important goals is to help children recognize the firefighter behind the gear. If they ever hear us in a real emergency, we want them to know we’re there to help—and to call out to us instead of hiding.

We also introduced some of the equipment we use for different calls, including our ice-water rescue gear, the Jaws of Life, a chainsaw, our Halligan tool, and those giant ventilation fans—for when Mom or Dad burns the toast! 😉

Their excitement, thoughtful questions, and curious faces brought us so much joy and warmed our hearts.

Thank you to the teachers and staff for helping make this visit possible, and to the students for reminding us why we love giving back to our community.

Teaching today helps build a safer tomorrow.
