Bethesda House is grateful for the funding it receives from the Provincial Ministry of Community & Social Services however, it does not cover the full cost of the services required to meet the needs of people dealing with domestic violence in Durham. Donations go a long way to help cover the rest of the costs. The support of the community is greatly appreciated. CHARITABLE REGISTRATION # 14083 - 5802RR001

Sometimes, survivors minimize what happened because it can feel easier than facing how much it really affected them.

You might tell yourself you’re overreacting, that other people have been through worse, or that it wasn’t worth making a big deal about.

And then you remember.

You remember how you felt. What you were afraid of. What you had to do to get through it.

You don’t have to minimize your experience for it to be valid. What happened to you matters, even if it took time to recognize just how much it affected you. 💜

If you’re starting to acknowledge what you went through, you don’t have to process it alone. Support is available when you’re ready to reach out.

You never know how much a little light can mean to someone who’s going through a dark time. 💜

Being there for your community doesn’t always mean doing something big. It can be checking in, listening without judgement, sharing a resource, making a donation, volunteering, or simply reminding someone that they’re not alone.

At Bethesda House, we see every day how community support can make a difference for women, children, and families who are going through some of life’s most difficult moments.

You can be part of that support.

There are so many ways to show up for the people around you, and sometimes, the smallest act of kindness can be the one someone remembers.

Be the light. You never know who needs it. 🕯️

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by Bethesda House at Bowmanville Applefest! 💜

From the community members who generously donated handmade knitted items to everyone who came by to shop and enjoy a warm cup of hot apple c***r, we’re so grateful for the support.

Every item purchased and every act of generosity helps support the work we do for women and children impacted by gender-based violence right here in our community.

It’s moments like these that remind us how much a community can do when we show up for one another. Thank you for being part of it! 💜

Healing isn’t linear. 💜

Some days, you might feel strong, hopeful, and ready to move forward. Other days, getting through the day might feel like enough.

You can have a good day and still have a hard one tomorrow. You can feel like you’ve made so much progress and still have moments that bring everything back.

That doesn’t erase the progress you’ve made.

Healing takes time, and there is no timeline you have to follow. Be patient with yourself. Give yourself permission to have difficult days without seeing them as a setback.

And if you’re finding it hard to carry it on your own, you don’t have to. Reaching out for support can be part of healing, too. Bethesda House is here when you’re ready. 🫶

It’s hard to heal when you’re still surrounded by the things that are hurting you.

Sometimes, people wonder why someone hasn’t “moved on” or why healing is taking so long. But healing doesn’t happen in a vacuum. When you’re still living with fear, control, criticism, or uncertainty, simply getting through the day can take everything you have.

If you’re finding it difficult to heal, it doesn’t mean you’re failing. It may mean you’re still trying to survive.

Everyone deserves to feel safe enough to heal. 💜

If you or someone you know is experiencing violence or abuse, support is available. You don’t have to figure out the next step alone.
