On Oct. 25, Calgarians gathered at the cenotaph in Central Memorial Park to dedicate a plaque in recognition of more than 40,000 Canadians who served in Afghanistan, and in honour of the 158 who died in the conflict.
Led by the City of Calgary, the ceremony included a moment of silence for the four soldiers who were killed while training at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright on Oct. 17: Sergeant Morgan Wong of The Loyal Edmonton Regiment, as well as Private Shaun Farrell, Private Aidan Goulding and Private Hayden Lykkemark from 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. We will remember them.
