🔥 Never use water on a grease fire.

Water can cause burning grease to splash and spread rapidly. If a grease fire starts:

✅ Turn off the heat if it's safe to do so
✅ Put a lid on the pan
✅ Leave it covered until completely cool

If the fire spreads, get out and call 911.

Halifax Grain Elevator Structure Fire | Oct. 26, 10:50 p.m.

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) responded to a 911 call at approximately 7:15 p.m. following a report of visible flames at the Halifax Grain Elevator property (730 Marginal Road).

Upon arrival, crews identified an incident involving the facility's dust management system, approximately 135 feet above ground level. The origin and cause of the fire have not yet been determined and will be subject to investigation.

HRFE's immediate priorities are firefighter safety and stabilizing the incident.

At its peak, the incident required a three-alarm response. On-site resources have since been reduced as the risk has decreased.

This remains a complex incident due to the nature of the industrial infrastructure, the challenges associated with firefighting operations at significant heights and the presence of a vessel alongside the facility.

Residents are asked to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to carry out their work safely.

Residents are encouraged to monitor https://brnw.ch/21x6GIx and follow the municipality's official social media channels for updates.

Residents can also sign up for hfxALERT, the municipality's mass notification system, to receive important emergency notifications by phone, email or text. Visit https://brnw.ch/21x6GIw to register.
