It's time to purchase your 2027 dog licence with the Cowichan Valley Regional District. All dogs over the age of 4 months require a licence in all Electoral Areas.

A few benefits of having a current dog licence:
🐾 Quick Reunions: A dog licence helps return lost dogs to their owners faster
🐾 Proof of Ownership: Your licence serves as official identification for your pet
🐾 Avoid Shelter Stays: If your dog’s home is known, they may not need to be taken to the shelter, saving you impound fees and stress on your pet.

Save $10 and pay only $35 when you purchase your dog licence between November 1, 2026, and January 31, 2027.

Curbside Collection Winter Guidelines

❄️Do you know how to correctly space your totes for successful winter weather collection?
❄️Automated collection vehicles require at least one metre (three feet) of clearance on all sides to collect your garbage, recycling, and organics effectively.
❄️During winter weather events, this includes making clearance for snowbanks and other debris. For safety reasons, please do not place your totes on a snowbank or in the roadway; residents are responsible for clearing snow around their totes.

Questions? Call the Recycling Hotline at 250-746-2540 or email [email protected]

Curbside Collection Inclement Weather Policy in Effect October 15 to April 1, 2027

Extreme weather events or acts of nature (e.g. snow, ice, flooding, etc.) may impede drivers from providing regularly scheduled curbside collection service. In some cases, an extreme weather event can cause some curbside collection services to be cancelled on your regularly scheduled collection day.

The CVRD will notify residents about curbside service disruptions on the CVRD website, cvrd.ca, page, , and the Cowichan Recycles App, Google Play Store download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.bc.cvrd.recollect.waste&hl=en_CA&gl=US&pli=1, Apple App Store download https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/cowichan-recycles/id1424426371.

If CVRD curbside truck drivers are unable to provide curbside collection service due to inclement weather, you can:
1) Hold onto your material* until the next scheduled collection day.
• For recyclables, place extra recyclables in clearly marked containers (laundry hampers, cardboard boxes, garbage cans). No plastic bags.
• For garbage, place extra garbage in a clearly marked, sturdy container beside your tote. Do not place bags of garbage on the ground.
• For organics, place extra organics in a clearly marked, sturdy container beside your tote.
• For glass, place extra glass in a sturdy container or laundry hamper. No cardboard boxes.
*Please ensure that containers with extra material weigh less than 20 kg (44 lbs.) each as they will need to be manually lifted by the curbside drivers.

2) Call the Recycling Hotline to arrange to take your extra material to a CVRD Recycling Centre. https://cvrd.ca/services/garbage-recycling/waste-and-recycling-facilities/drop-off-depots-recycling-centers/

Have questions? Call the Recycling Hotline at 250-746-2540 or email [email protected].

Hey Cowichan,

The CVRD is bear country - make sure that the only guest on your front porch is a trick-or-treater!

🎃 Did you know that when you leave your Halloween pumpkins outside, they attract wildlife such as bears, deer, and elk? Rotting jack-o-lanterns can be a food source for wildlife, leading animals to become food-conditioned in neighbourhoods or at the roadside, which risks human-wildlife conflicts and collisions with wildlife in the pursuit of food.

The BC Conservation Officer Service recommends only putting pumpkins out on October 31. Once Halloween is over, promptly dispose of pumpkins in your backyard composter or green curbside organics tote, or bring them to a CVRD Recycling Centre free of charge! 🎃

For more information on how to manage attractants and to report wildlife sightings, visit: https://wildsafebc.com/

Call the RAPP hotline (1-877-952-7277) to report any human-wildlife interactions where public or wildlife safety may be at risk.
