Many of you have heard about the tragic loss that has impacted the scheduled band, The Reluctants, for our Autumn Fundraising Dance. The Fernie Seniors Centre extends our condolences to the family, friends, band members, and everyone who was so fortunate to know and love their cherished band member.

We have organized for The Banned to play in their place and we are appreciative that they were available and keen!

We do still have a few tickets available for the October 30 event so swing by the Seniors Centre office or find Waldon Pfeifer to get yours soon!

Tomorrow, September 30, is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

It is a day to remember the children who were taken from their families and communities and the survivors of residential schools, while taking time to learn about the ongoing impacts of colonialism and the importance of reconciliation.

We encourage our community to listen, learn, and reflect and to recognize that reconciliation is an ongoing commitment, not something that happens in a single day.

Here in Fernie, Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it First Nation and the City of Fernie are hosting a Truth and Reconciliation Walk and ceremony at Fernie City Hall tomorrow, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Community members are welcome to attend and are encouraged to wear orange.

We invite our members and community to take part, listen to Indigenous voices and leadership, and continue learning throughout the year.

September 30 is a day to remember, listen, learn, and recommit to the work of reconciliation.
