It is with profound sadness that we share with you that our beautiful wolf, Flora, crossed the rainbow bridge after a hard-fought battle with cancer on September 11, 2026. She fell asleep in one of her favourite sunny spots, surrounded by loved ones and wrapped in Shelley’s arms.
It is difficult to encapsulate Flora with words. She was our diva, superstar, and sweetheart. The love she shared with Shelley, staff, her wolf friends & visitors from far and wide has surely left a 65-pound, wolf shaped hole in the hearts of many with this news.
Flora arrived at NLWC with her brother at 11 days old and was strongly imprinted because of that. This helped her grow into the expert of stealing hearts that she became - as much as she was imprinted to her humans, her humans were equally as imprinted to her.
For 14 years, Flora did her job as an ambassador wolf with pride. Beyond the thousands of visitors, she helped educate about wolves at the centre every year, she also travelled to hundreds of schools across Alberta and BC to educate kids. On her walks, she showed her guests she was a pro at striking a pose and made sure to find any leftover breakfast crumbs with a gentle face lick while she was at it. She was truly a leading lady of NLWC.
In real diva fashion, Flora loved to voice her opinions with a howl, always stealing the show or making sure to let us know when Shelley would come and go. She had a quirky, playful nature, but made sure to remind everyone that she was in charge - in her own graceful way. Her many adventures with wolf and human alike are treasures we are honoured to have been a part of. We are going to miss her so much.
We are comforted knowing that Scrappy Dave is on the other side, ready to catch up with his sister on their many adventures since they were last together.
We would like to thank every person who loved Flora, helped care for her, and allowed us to provide her the most comfort possible because of their support.
Thank you, Flora, for the memories you gave us, and for the amazing work you did as an ambassador wolf. Though we weren’t ready for you to leave, in our hearts you will forever be. Until we meet again.
