🔥 Is Your Chimney Ready for Winter?

Many households have already begun firing up their wood stoves this fall. Before the winter weather really sets in, now is a good time to have your chimney cleaned and inspected.

Why clean it? Over time, burning wood can develop a flammable substance called creosote. If left unchecked, over time it can build up and increase the risk of a fire within the flu, creating a dangerous chimney fire.

Having your chimney inspected at least annually and cleaned as needed by a qualified professional reduces that risk, keeping your home safe and warm this winter.

Preventative maintenance can go a long way toward keeping your home and family safe this winter.

That cheap replacement charger online — is it actually safe to use?

We’ve all done it before — bought that random cheap charging cable or adapter and didn’t think much of it. If it fits and charges the device, what’s the problem?

Not every charger is made to the same power ratings or safety standards. Using the wrong or an incompatible charger can damage a battery, cause overheating, and increase the risk of fire.

When purchasing, always check and use a charger/adapter approved by the manufacturer or meets the manufacturer's specifications. Even better, look for recognized safety certifications such as CSA, UL or ETL.

A few extra dollars for the right charger can be a lot cheaper than the damage caused by the wrong one.

Rechargeable batteries are everywhere — but are you using them safely?

This year's Fire Prevention Week is all about making safe choices when charging devices using a Lithium-Ion Battery. “Charge Into Fire Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower”

Lithium-Ion Batteries are in plenty of everyday devices: smartphones, computers, handheld devices, power tools, kids' toys, e-bikes and more! They are a part of everyday life, but how we charge them matters greatly.

Small changes in how we charge our devices can make a big difference in preventing fires. For more information, visit fpw.org

🔥 As colder weather arrives and fall takes full effect, it’s important to remember that daily burn restrictions from the Department of Natural Resources continue through the end of the wildfire season on October 31st.

Wildfires can still occur during the fall, particularly during periods of dry or windy weather. Anyone planning to burn should continue to check the daily burn restrictions and carefully consider surrounding conditions, including the dryness of grass, leaves and other vegetation.

Check daily burn restrictions by visiting gnb.ca/firewatch or by calling 1-866-458-8080
