Harvey Heritage thanks Caryle Hill and Simply Country for performing their Gospel Country Concert at Knox Presbyterian Church in Harvey, New Bruswick this past Sunday and all the wonderful attendees who contributed to the Good Will Offering. Our organization can continue its mission due to the generosity of the community. Joanne Swan, Fred Harris, Real Berube, and Randy Johnson are the other members of Simply Country and were joined by special guest performers, Anna and Arnold Stockford.

It was a particularly poignant time due to the tragic accident that occurred the previous day when two men with extensive ties within our community lost their lives. The concert started off with a hymn about friendship, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to the victims' families and everyone affected.

It is estimated that as many as 10 thousand Atlantic Canadians took part in the American Civil War. We have documented aprox 5400 so far. We will be at the Fredericton Heritage fair to share some of our research. Stop by if you are in the area to see what we do to honour their memory.

For 125 years, the McAdam Railway Station has been a workplace, a meeting spot, a first stop and a last goodbye for generations of families.

We want to hear your Station story.

Did you work at the Station? Did your parents, grandparents or neighbours? Did you arrive here, leave from here, or meet someone special on the platform? If the Station is part of your family's story, we would love to hear it.

As part of our 125th anniversary, we are recording in-person video interviews with the people who know the Station best. Some stories will be shared as part of this anniversary project, and all of them help preserve McAdam's history for the future.

How to share yours:
Email a short note about your story to [email protected]
Tell us who you are, how you or your family are connected to the Station, and a little about your memory. Photos are welcome too.

If yours is selected, we will reach out to arrange an in-person video interview. We can't promise a call back to everyone, but every story matters to us.

Please share this with someone who has a Station story. Tag them below or send them this post. 🚂

This project is funded in part by the Government of New Brunswick, Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, Archaeology and Heritage Branch.

Today is Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed every year on September 30. It was established as a result of recommendations made by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (2008-2015) that studied the harm done by the residential school system that ran from 1831 to 1996 to the indigenous children who were forced to attend, their families, their communities, and the resulting generational impacts that are still experienced today. For more information about the commission go to https://nctr.ca/about/truth-and-reconciliation-commission-of-canada/ . September 30th is also known as Orange Shirt Day - Every Child Matters established in 2013 when many wear orange to honor the survivors and victims.

The TRC documented the truth of Survivors, their families, communities and anyone personally affected by the residential school experience.
