Over the past few months, our Shedders have been working on a special project: building wooden stitching ponies (table clamps used for leatherworking) from the ground up for Thomas Porter of Viridus Leather.
This was a skills exchange for resources. Thomas generously donated a tonne of building materials to Men's Sheds, and in return, our Shedders put their skills to work!
Led by our very own Tom Hovan, the team brought the ponies together in true assembly-line fashion. One by one, they came to life - and if we do say so ourselves, they look better than anything you can buy online, including those cheap overseas knock-offs! 😉
The project came to completion at our first Thursday night social a couple of weeks ago, and seeing Thomas’s satisfaction when he picked them up made all the hard work worthwhile. They’ve already been put to good use in his first leatherworking classes at CASA!
We’re incredibly proud of how this project came together: good people, shared skills, generous support and something useful made right here in our community. 👏
Keep an eye out - these stitching ponies will be available through the Men’s Sheds online store shortly!
So, what do you reckon? Did we do good?
