TRAINING IN ACTION | AUTO EXTRICATION
Last Sunday, members of the Magnetawan Fire Department participated in a hands-on vehicle extrication training session focused on developing the skills, knowledge, and teamwork required to safely respond to motor vehicle collisions.
Throughout the day, firefighters worked through several important aspects of vehicle extrication, including:
🔹 Scene size-up and hazard recognition
🔹 Vehicle stabilization and operational safety
🔹 Airbag identification, location, and associated hazards
🔹 Door removal techniques
🔹 Roof removal procedures
🔹 Dashboard lifting techniques
🔹 Safe tool operation and firefighter safety.
A special thank you to Keegan Vasey of Muskoka Lakes Fire Department, who generously volunteered his time to serve as our lead instructor. Keegan provided excellent instruction, sharing his knowledge and experience while guiding our firefighters through practical, real-world scenarios.
We would also like to thank Rick from The Shop in the Mag Auto Service for generously donating two pickup trucks for the training session. Access to vehicles for hands-on training provides our firefighters with valuable opportunities to practise techniques in a realistic environment. We sincerely appreciate this contribution and the support that helped make the day possible.
Training opportunities like these are made possible through the dedication of our firefighters, the generosity of individuals who share their expertise, and the continued support of our local community.
Every opportunity to train helps us become better prepared to protect the people we serve
