💜 EXCITING NEWS FOR CHEYENNE COUNTY 💜

The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the creation of our Victim Advocate Program!

We recognize that our responsibility to victims goes beyond responding to a call or investigating a crime. Victims deserve compassion, guidance, information, and access to resources as they navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Our Administrative Assistant, Trinda, will be taking on the role of Victim Advocate. She has already completed multiple trainings to prepare for this responsibility and to better assist individuals and families affected by crime.

Through this program, we aim to help connect victims with available resources, explain their rights, provide information about the criminal justice process, and ensure they know where to turn for additional support.

This program is another step toward strengthening the services we provide to the people of Cheyenne County.

💜 OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH 💜

You Are Not Alone. You Deserve to Feel Safe.

Domestic violence doesn’t always leave visible bruises. It can involve physical violence, emotional abuse, threats, intimidation, isolation, financial control, and manipulation. It affects people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life, including those right here in our own community.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone that help is available, and no one should have to face abuse alone.

💜 To every victim who may be reading this: You matter. Your safety matters. Your voice matters. And you deserve support.

If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

For confidential assistance, contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or text START to 88788.

💜 Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office
Protecting our community. Supporting victims. Building a safer tomorrow.

**Numerous ADULTS Summoned to Court**
**CHEYENNE COUNTY PARENTS, PLEASE TALK WITH YOUR CHILDREN**

Over the last two days, I have issued several summonses to court for contributing to the delinquency of minors. These are ADULTS who provided YOUR children with MA*****NA, alcohol, and ni****ne products. Some of the children involved are as young as 9 YEARS OLD!!!

This is part of an ongoing investigation. Additional cases are pending review by the District Attorney’s Office for possible charges. Everyone charged is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Information uncovered during several search warrants indicates that NUMEROUS children are using or exposed to these substances. I am working to contact the parents whose names appeared in the information I reviewed. But please do not assume your child has not been pressured or offered something simply because their name did not come up or they tell you they aren't involved.

We all want to believe our children and trust what they tell us. Still, when you have a concern, **ask questions and look deeper**. We have found evidence that some children are ordering substances online and having packages delivered to their homes or P.O. boxes. Please be vigilant: check packages, talk with your child, and stay involved in their online lives.

Children are also sharing these substances with other children. Know their friend circle. If you are concerned, look beyond regular text messages. Check the apps they use to communicate, including SNAPCHAT; review messages, CHECK EMAIL, and web history. We are reviewing ways to STOP websites that allow this behavior and will follow up; however, new websites can pop up daily.

**Protecting your child is your responsibility.** We have zero tolerance for adults who put children in danger by providing ma*****na, alcohol, or ni****ne. Parents play an important role in protecting their children, and our office is here to help. We will investigate and take appropriate action, but prevention starts at home.

These substances can affect a child’s developing brain, health, judgment, learning, and well-being. A 2026 study published in JAMA Health Forum followed more than 463,000 adolescents and found that cannabis use during adolescence was associated with higher rates of diagnosed psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety by young adulthood. The strongest associations were for psychotic and bipolar disorders. Cannabis use is also linked with psychosis and schizophrenia, and the association is stronger among people who begin using earlier and use more frequently.

Ni****ne can harm developing brain functions involved in attention, learning, mood, and impulse control, and it can be addictive. Alcohol use during adolescence is associated with problems involving memory, learning, school performance, and mental health.

Please have these conversations with your children today. If you have information about adults providing ma*****na, alcohol, or ni****ne to children, contact law enforcement. If you have questions, please come by and talk.

On October 17, 2026, at approximately 1145 hours, Cheyenne County deputies received a Flock hit for a stolen vehicle headed into Cheyenne County on Highway 40. The owner had been tracking the vehicle as well and contacted Lincoln County who also contacted our Dispatch. Before the vehicle could come into the town of Kit Carson, deputies had recovered the vehicle (approximately $75,000 value with valuable tools inside) and detained all four occupants.

After further investigation, all four occupants were released, and the vehicle was towed and will be returned to the owner. Flock has been a vital tool for the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office, but full and thorough investigations are always conducted to ensure justice. The owner declined to press charges.

There have been increasing reports of THC and Ni****ne use by juveniles in Cheyenne Wells.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office encourages families to talk about THC and ni****ne vapes, peer pressure, and how to get help. Ask what your child is seeing and hearing, listen, and set clear expectations.

Know the risk. Start the conversation
Ask calmly. Listen carefully.
Try: “What are you seeing or hearing about vapes?” “Has anyone offered you one?” “What would make it easier to say no?” Let your child answer before you respond. Explain your expectations
about using, sharing or selling products, and make a plan for leaving an uncomfortable situation.

A small device can carry real risks. Ni****ne is highly addictive and can harm the parts of an adolescent's brain involved in attention,
learning, mood and impulse control. THC, the intoxicating component of cannabis, can affect memory, attention and coordination. V**e devices can deliver ni****ne or cannabis; appearance alone does not establish their contents.

Respond to concerns with support
Changes in behavior, school performance or sleep can have many causes; they are reasons to check in, not proof of drug use. Ask a healthcare professional about concerning symptoms,
assessment and help quitting.

Reduce access. Report specific information.
Keep cannabis, ni****ne liquids and devices locked away from children. If you learn of supplying or selling to students, report what was seen or received, when and where it happened, and any
messages.

🔥 INFORMATION REQUESTED – PROPERTY FIRE 🔥

On September 11, 2026, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a fire was reported at 14112 County Road 44 near Cheyenne Wells.

Smoke from the fire was noticed during the Homecoming parade. Fortunately, a large number of the Cheyenne Wells Volunteer firefighters were already gathered with their apparatus for the parade and were able to respond quickly. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control, but not before damage occurred to the property.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance as we work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.

If you were in the area of County Road 44 around 3:20 p.m. on September 11, or shortly before, and saw anything unusual, observed any vehicles or individuals in the area, or have photos, videos, dash-camera footage, or other information that may be relevant, please contact the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office.

Even something that may seem insignificant could be helpful to the investigation.

Please call 719-767-5633. You can remain anonymous.

We would also like to thank the firefighters who responded so quickly. Their immediate response helped prevent further damage.

Please share this post to help us reach anyone who may have information.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office has recently received several complaints and concerns regarding children operating motorized e-bikes, golf carts, scooters, and go-karts on public roadways.

We encourage parents to talk with their children about roadway safety and following applicable traffic laws. Riders and operators need to obey stop signs, follow posted speed limits, watch carefully for vehicles and pedestrians, and remain alert to their surroundings. We will initiate a traffic stop if a complaint is turned in or if we observe a traffic infraction.

Please remind children to stay off the highways. Higher speeds and heavier traffic make highways especially dangerous for young riders and these types of recreational vehicles.

These vehicles can be fun, but sharing the roadway comes with responsibility. Please help us keep our kids and our community safe by making sure young riders understand the rules before they hit the road.
