GTA Disability Coalition's DISABILITY POVERTY Election Priorities.
Legislated disability poverty caused by insufficient disability income support programs and lack of accessible, living wage employment opportunities means that disabled people experience more extreme rates of poverty than non-disabled residents. This leaves many of Toronto disabled residents far below the poverty line.
Affordability and Economy for All means that the City of Toronto:
Increases disability-specific investments within Toronto’s Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS), including transparent and publicly reported disability-inclusion budget lines and measurability.
Pressures other layers of government to increase income support rates such as ODSP and the Canada Disability Benefit.
Increase living wage, accessible employment and training opportunities.
