Congratulations on 40 years of supporting Independent Living and representing people with disabilities from coast to coast to coast! And a huge shoutout to all member centers celebrating this week recognizing Independent Living Across Canada Day!

CILT is proud to mark Independent Living Across Canada Day today on June 1st. Recognized annually, this day promotes the human right of people with disabilities in Canada to live with autonomy, inclusion and independence in their communities.

At a time of growing erosion of these rights, CILT calls on all societal sectors to advance bold progress towards people with disabilities realizing these rights.

Last year, CILT celebrated 40 years of empowering people with disabilities to live independently and control their own lives.

It's National AccessAbility Week and we want to honour it by sharing CILT’s commitment to accessibility!

Access is a core principle of Independent Living. It's a necessary step towards dignified equity and inclusion for disabled people. We strive and advocate for embedding accessibility into programs and services from the start.

What is one thing you can commit to this week to improve accessibility at your organization or in your community?

Yesterday, we joined over 35 community sector leaders at the City for All Campaign Partner’s Summit at the Native Canadian Cultural Centre. We strategized on ways to demand a 'Better Toronto for All' from our city's municipal leaders and this fall’s new city council. We're pleased to say that disabled and Deaf Toronto residents are among the equity-seeking communities elevated in this campaign.
City for All's 6 campaign pillars:
• Housing for All
• Affordability for All
• Economy for All
• Transit for All
• Wellbeing for All
• Resilient Neighbourhoods for All

Thanks for convening this vital summit, Social Planning Toronto 👏

CILT will be recirculating a notice of the City for All Summit, Saturday, June 13, in person. Please join us! Everyone is welcome. Register here: http://socialplanningtoronto.org/summit
