I’ve been hearing from many residents who have been targeted by distraction thefts, especially our seniors.

These crimes often happen when someone approaches pretending to ask for directions or help, and in a moment of distraction, valuables like jewelry are stolen.

If you are approached by someone you do not know, whether on your front lawn, driveway, or in a shopping plaza parking lot, do not engage.

Stay alert and trust your instincts.

If someone attempts to steal from you or succeeds in doing so, please report it to York Regional Police immediately.

Reporting matters. It allows police to deploy resources and increase patrols where they are needed most.

As Mayor, I will never stop fighting to keep Vaughan safe. That means pushing for real criminal justice reform, real bail reform, and real consequences.
