October is . Our library isn’t just beautiful; it’s a vital part of our work! Parliamentary libraries help strengthen democracy by providing trusted, non-partisan information that supports informed decision-making, public understanding, and legislative work.

Every year, our library answers thousands of research questions, loans out thousands of items from a collection that exceeds 500,000, and offers hundreds of training and orientation sessions.

This month, we celebrate our library professionals who connect people with the knowledge they need to serve British Columbians.

Did you know, since 1918 there have so far been 161 women elected to serve as a Member of the Legislative Assembly? As Rosemary Brown, the first Black woman elected to a provincial legislature in Canada, said:

“Women should enter politics to bring about change. It's a tough arena, and an unpleasant one. The sacrifices called for can only be justified on the grounds that we are indeed making the world or our community a better place than it is.”
