This Sunday, we’re taking the next step toward establishing the Yellowhead Wildlife Association—and we need your input.

Our goal for the evening is clear:
✅ Tally commitments to individual and family memberships.
✅ Choose our first goals and priorities.
✅ Find out who’s interested in volunteering or helping lead the group.

Hunting, fishing, conservation, shooting sports and youth mentorship are all part of the conversation. The people who join will help decide where we begin.

Around two dozen people attended our first meeting. This week, we’re asking everyone to personally invite one more person—a friend, neighbour or family member who might want to get involved.

We’re working toward affiliation with the Manitoba Wildlife Federation as we prepare for our first membership year in 2027.

The general whitetail/mule deer season is coming up fast! Depending on your Deer Hunting Zone, general season opens as early as September 21, while many areas open November 9. In September, BCWF asked every party to commit in writing to three priorities: legislated public access, dedicated fish, wildlife and habitat funding, and opposing the federal fi****ms buyback.

The incoming government has committed to:

🌲 Guaranteeing public access to Crown land, parks and the backcountry in law
🦌 Establishing an independent Fish and Wildlife Commission and setting science-based population objectives
🎣 Dedicating hunting licence and tag revenues to fish and wildlife management, and putting more conservation officers in the field
🔥 Expanding prescribed and cultural burning, with annual reporting on hectares treated
🛡️ Reviewing the implications of the federal fi****ms buyback for B.C. and keeping provincial policing focused on public safety priorities

Now we need to turn these commitments into results, and that will take our members’ voices. In the coming months, we’ll be asking you to connect with your MLA, whatever their party, about these priorities. Stay tuned; we’ll share details and next steps soon.

On behalf of our 37,000 members and 100 fish and game clubs, we look forward to working with the government and all parties in the Legislature to move these priorities forward.
