How can circular economy approaches reduce emissions and build climate-resilience for destinations?

🎬🇲🇹 Lights, camera, Malta!

UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Al Nuwais visits the island nation that has captivated filmmakers for decades — as Malta proudly hosts the UN Tourism 72nd Meeting of the Commission for Europe (CEU).

A sit-down with President Myriam Spiteri Debono set the tone for meaningful conversations on tourism.

From the legendary Gladiator film set to the historic streets of Valletta — some destinations don’t just host stories, they become them. ✨

From silver screens to real-life discovery, Malta proves that some destinations are truly beyond imagination. 🌊☀️

🌍 Africa Day.

81 million visitors last year. 8% growth. A continent that never stops growing.

But the question now is who that growth truly reaches. Tourism cannot succeed if the communities hosting the world are left behind.

This year, the African Union has rightly put the spotlight on clean water and safe sanitation.

As we look ahead to leading the United Nations International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism in 2027, this is exactly where our focus must be.

Opportunity. A real stake in the future. That future belongs to Africa’s youth.

UN Tourism is deeply committed to building this future together with our African partners.

Happy 💙

Historic neighborhoods are more than heritage. They are homes, livelihoods, and communities.
At the UN Habitat 13th Edition of the World Urban Forum 2026, UN Tourism joins UNESCO and UN Habitat to ask: how can cultural heritage regenerate our cities — better housing, public space, climate resilience, more inclusion — And what role can tourism play in helping achieve these goals?

Ancient walls.
The call to prayer echoing through the city.
Craftsmanship passed from hand to hand for generations.
And above it all, a country moving forward at full speed.

From the National Museum of Jewelry & Adornment, where every detail tells a story shaped by generations of artisans, to the modern vision reflected in the Mohammed VI Tower, UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Al Nuwais experienced firsthand how Morocco carries its identity forward while continuing to evolve.

A defining moment of the visit was the inauguration of the UN Tourism Thematic Office on Innovation for Africa in Rabat - not just a new office, but a platform for new ideas, partnerships and opportunities across the continent.

Because tourism, at its best, should leave something behind: opportunity for people, value for communities and culture that continues to live forward.
