Today, the Nausori Town Council together with the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, and the Commissioner Central’s Office commemorated 147th Girmit Day in remembrance of the indentured labourers who were brought to Fiji by the British Empire in 1879.
The celebration honoured the sacrifices, resilience, and enduring contributions of the Girmitiyas whose strength and perseverance helped shape the social, cultural, and economic fabric of our nation.
As we reflect on this important chapter of Fiji’s history, may we continue to uphold the values of unity, diversity, and mutual respect that bind us together as one people and one nation.

Today, our hardworking Nausori Town Council team was out in full force at Dilkhusha Ward, carrying out essential drain clearing works to keep our community clean and reduce flooding. 💧🛠️
Despite the weather, these dedicated workers removed debris, cleared blockages, and restored proper water flow through the drainage system. Their efforts play a crucial role in preventing flooding, reducing health risks, and maintaining a safe environment for all residents.
We kindly remind everyone that keeping our drains clear is a SHARED RESPONSIBILITY. Please dispose of waste properly and avoid littering, as blocked drains can quickly undo the hard work put in by our teams.
Let’s work together to keep Nausori clean, safe, and resilient.
