[ BISMARCK CHALLENGE 2026 🦏 ]

From its origins in Herford, Germany, to the training areas of Catterick, the Bismarck Challenge has endured as a test of teamwork, resilience and determination.

This year, personnel from across 1st (UK) Division took on 10 miles carrying 18kg - another chapter in a military tradition spanning more than two decades.

A huge effort from everyone who stepped up to take on the challenge, and from those behind the scenes whose planning and organisation made the event possible. 👊🏼

🔥 FINAL REPS OF AT BEFORE THE MAIN EVENT!🔥

With the final reps of Adventure Training (AT) complete, the LANCS Battle Group is gearing up for the BG Integration Lane and the upcoming FTX.

Kingsmen and gunners from 1 LANCS and 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery came together in savage wilderness for a multi-activity phase of white-water rafting, archery and climbing pushing boundaries, building confidence and strengthening the bonds that make a Battle Group work as one.

Resilience. Teamwork. Camaraderie.

More than just a break from the training area, this was about building trust, developing relationships and preparing our people for the challenges ahead.

The adventure training is done for now. The integration begins. Now it’s time to bring it all together! 🔥

[ THE RACE IS ON 🏃‍♂️💨 ]

The countdown to the Cross-Country season is underway!

On 30 September, Marne Barracks played host to the second Army Sport North Relay Race, hosted by 5th Regiment Royal Artillery.

96 Service personnel from units across the North went head-to-head in a fiercely contested competition, tackling a demanding 2km relay course in teams of three.

With impressive times recorded throughout, competitors demonstrated the endurance, determination and ability to recover under pressure needed to perform at a high intensity.

Introduced to bridge the gap between Cross-Country seasons, the Army Sport North Relay Series is about more than just running. It’s about building fitness, strengthening teamwork and encouraging participation in Army sport.

Three runners. One team. Every second counts.

The Cross-Country season is coming. Are you ready?

[ OP ESCUDO | SUPPORTING UK OPERATIONS 🇬🇧 ]

HQ North recently had the pleasure of working alongside 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search Regiment (11 EOD) and multi-agency partners in support of Merseyside Police during the Labour Party Conference.

As part of Op ESCUDO, personnel provided military support, liaison and specialist assistance, demonstrating the importance of coordination between Defence and civilian agencies in delivering UK Operations.

During the deployment, the Secretary of State for Defence visited troops to personally thank them for their contribution and receive briefings on 11 EOD’s specialist capabilities and the vital role of a Joint Military Command in coordinating military support to UK operations.

Professionalism. Readiness. Partnership.
