🌷❤️ 400 Tulips Planted in Ashington Memorial Garden ❤️🌷

It was a wonderful morning at Ashington Memorial Garden as families, young people and community volunteers came together with Ashington Town Council for a special community planting day.

A fantastic 400 Red Riding Hood tulip bulbs were planted, alongside hyacinths, ready to bring a beautiful splash of colour to the garden next spring. The red tulips were chosen as a fitting tribute to those remembered in the garden.

There were plenty of helping hands, including children from Ashington-based Wildfox Day Nurseries Ltd , members of the community, local volunteers and representatives from Northumberland County Council. It was lovely to see so many generations getting involved and enjoying time together outdoors. 🌱

A special thank you goes to Wildfox Nursery, Woodhorn Weeders, everyone who brought along their families, and all the volunteers who helped make the morning such a success.

Civic Head Cllr Caroline Ball also joined in with the planting and said:

"What a lovely morning. It was a joy to see so many families, young people and volunteers working side by side in a place that means so much to our town. When these tulips flower in spring, everyone who came along can be proud that they helped make it happen."

Thanks also go to Steve at Ashington Cricket Club for kindly providing space for refreshments afterwards. ☕

🌺 With Remembrance Sunday approaching on 8 November, the Memorial Garden will soon provide a beautiful setting for the town's act of remembrance.

If you're purchasing a poppy this year, please support the Ashington Royal British Legion wherever possible. Those wishing to do a little extra can visit the Ashington Branch of the Royal British Legion's poppy stall at Asda, Portland Park, where poppy wreaths are available to purchase.

Every contribution helps support the vital work of the Royal British Legion and the Armed Forces community. ❤️

🌷 Everyone who took part can look forward to returning in spring to see the results of their hard work!

❤️ A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it such a special community morning.

🎆 Do the right thing this Bonfire Night 🎆

With Bonfire Night approaching, Northumberland County Council is working alongside Northumbria Police, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and Bernicia Group to help keep communities safe.

A joint fortnight of action began on 26 October, with patrols in areas affected by anti-social behaviour, firework safety advice and reminders about celebrating responsibly.

Everyone can play their part in making sure Bonfire Night is enjoyable and safe for the whole community.

🎇 A few things to remember:
- Never point or throw fireworks at people, homes or property.
- Only buy fireworks from reputable, licensed retailers.
- Keep bonfires attended and under control.
- Be considerate of neighbours, pets and those who may be affected by fireworks.
- Report dangerous or suspicious activity.

If you're planning to enjoy fireworks this year, why not support one of the organised local events taking place in the area in a safe and controlled environment? There are displays and celebrations being organised by local schools and community groups, including:

🎆 Central Primary School: https://www.centralprimary.co.uk/news/?pid=5&nid=1&storyid=13

🎆 Ashington CofE School PTA: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/facesptafundraisersofashingtoncofeschool/2383391

Supporting organised displays is a great way to enjoy the celebrations while supporting local organisations and their fundraising efforts.

🚨 Reporting dangerous activity:
- Dangerous, out-of-control or unattended bonfires: Call 999.
- Anti-social behaviour: Call Northumbria Police on 101 or report online: https://www.northumbria.police.uk/ro/report/asb/asb-v3/report-antisocial-behaviour/

Let's all do our bit to keep Ashington and the surrounding communities safe this Bonfire Night.

More information and firework safety advice can be found on Northumberland County Council's website: https://www.northumberland.gov.uk/news/do-right-thing-bonfire-night

💚 Ashington Town Council is pleased and proud to have helped support the installation of a memorial bench along the River Wansbeck in memory of Eric Shiel.

The bench looks wonderful and provides a fitting tribute to Eric, who spent so many hours coaching junior rowers on the river he loved.

Congratulations to Cambois Rowing Club on their successful fundraising efforts, and a big thank you to everyone who contributed to making this special tribute possible. The bench will provide a lasting place for family, friends and the rowing community to pause, reflect and remember Eric. 🤍

We’re pleased to share that the memorial bench is now in place along the River Wansbeck, in memory of Eric Shiel 💚

A huge thank you to Ashington Town Council for all of their help and support in making this possible, and to everyone who has donated to our fundraising appeal and supported us along the way.

It means so much to have a lasting tribute to Eric where he spent so many hours coaching our junior rowers.

Forever remembered by the river he loved 💚🤍
